It’ll be 15 years next year since production of the Zephyr 750 ended! Zapper recommends an early refresh!

It has been 14 years since the production of the Zephyr 750 ended. More than 40 years have passed since the introduction of the 750cc transformed Z750FX-II. Genuine parts are required to be manufactured for 10 years for important safety parts and function-maintaining parts, but this has long since passed. Both genuine and aftermarket parts are expected to decrease, so why not take this opportunity to refresh your vehicle?
But before that...

On September 27, 2021, Kawasaki announced the new Z650RS. It has a modern retro design inspired by the old Z650 nicknamed "Zapper". It is powered by a liquid-cooled in-line 2-cylinder engine instead of an air-cooled 4-cylinder engine like the old Zapper....

We were not able to get into detail, but is it possible to share Zephyr and ZR-7 parts? Let's compare the engine covers.

Engine Comparison

If you bothered to read this page, you would know that the left side is a Zephyr 750 and the right side is a ZR-7.
*The Zephyr 750 is a little bit customized.

Appearance of the right side (clutch side)

The shape of the head cover and point cover is different, and the word "Kawasaki" is also gone from the ZR-7. By the way, I think that regarding the head cover, it is more likely that it became a round head cover specially made for the Zephyr 750 rather than the ZR-7 becoming a square shape. The clutch cover is a different color but the shape seems to be the same. The carburetor of the ZR-7 is equipped with a throttle position sensor (TPS) called K-TRIC and a carburetor heater.

Appearance of the left side (sprocket side)

Both the generator cover and the sprocket cover have different shapes. The Zephyr has a rounded, nostalgic shape that matches the design of the body. In the picture, the ZR-7 step plate is off,but if it were there it might be difficult to put the Zephyr sprocket cover on the ZR-7 because the plate sticks out. Although the reverse looks doable. In addition, the protrusion you can see between the carburetor and the cylinder is the cam chain tensioner, which has been improved and made smaller in the ZR-7. The difference between the starter one-way clutch, as it is often called, cannot be determined from the external appearance.

It's time to freshen up.

Because of the robust engine, many vehicles are overrunning, which is also a Zapper thing. Mine is also an example, over 50,000 km and not overhauled. Here are some refreshing parts that I'm sure many Zapper owners would love to have!

A slight malfunction could be caused by the carburetor.

KEYSTER|Carburetor Fuel Tuning Kit

zapper_engine_01.jpg

This is a standard product for carburetor overhauling. In addition to the detailed parts required for overhauling, multiple jets are included, so it is recommended for those who have already customized their exhausts and air filters! The product is for one carburetor, so be sure to purchase a set of four. Please note that depending on the model of bike, there may be different part numbers for the inner two and outer two.

Supported models
  • KZ650(77-79)
  • Z750FX-II
  • Z750FX-III
  • gpz750f A1 A2(83-84)
  • Zephyr 750/RS C1-C11 D1 D3 D4
  • ZR-7/S F1 F3

The most common way to refresh and tune your engine is to increase the bore!
