Did you know that January 20th is called "Daikan"? The reason for this is that it is considered the coldest day of the year. While I wish I could just stay inside and relax on such a cold day, it's the sad fate of motorcyclists that as long as the sky is clear, they want to go for a spin.
Unfortunately, I'm one of those people, but I recently acquired a reassuring item for such occasions. It's the Mega Heat Jacket from TS DESIGN, a well-known brand in the workwear industry.

What is TS Design?
TS DESIGN is the name of the brand, and it is an original brand of Towa Corporation based in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Towa Corporation was initially founded in 1962 as "Kazuro Fujiwara Shoten". Afterwards, it was recognized as a brand with a high design that did not seem to be workwear in a good meaning by adding the essence of the design to the high functionality that the workwear had after passing the time of about 40 years.
What you need for warm clothes
So, what were the necessary elements of warm clothing in the first place? That's three things: thermal protection, waterproofing and breathability. First of all, it is coldproof, but it can also be referred to as heat retention. The key is to make sure that your body heat is not lost no matter how cold the outside temperature is.
Of course, windproof performance to shut out the wind is also an important point. Next is waterproofness, it is important that the product is made in such a way that water does not seep inside even in snow or rain. And finally, moisture permeability. When you sweat, if the moisture permeability is low, your body heat will be lost. In addition, as for how to choose, I think it is good to choose the thing of the size that fits it as much as possible. If there are gaps in the places named "neck" such as wrists and ankles, air from outside will enter.
Difference from Riding Jacket
I hope you have understood the points necessary for warm clothing. So what's the difference between a motorcycle jacket and other winter clothing?
It is the following three items.
First of all, with or without protector, I don't need to explain this. All motorcycle jackets are equipped with protectors. It is attached to at least the shoulders, elbows, and back, and can be removed if not needed.
- Cutting based on the riding position
Riding jackets are basically cut based on the riding position. It is made to fit best in a lightly bent position, with different length lengths on the front and back.
- Function to prevent flapping when subjected to wind pressure
The wind pressure you experience when riding is completely different from what you normally experience when walking. If there is any part of the body that receives even a little wind, it will become resistance and you will exhaust your energy trying to resist it.
However, the mainstream adventure and naked bikes these days don't lean that far forward, and unless you're going a long way on the highway, you're not going fast enough to worry about wind pressure, so it's not a concern. As for the protector, only the protector can be purchased separately if you are concerned about it, so there is no problem here either.
I personally didn't like the stumpy design of the protector, and this was the first time I bought a workwear TS Design winter wear.
The most powerful thermal jacket: the name is Mega Heat
It's been a long time coming, but I'd like to introduce the main topic, Mega Heat. The Mega Heat is the warmest jacket in the TS Design range. The name of the aluminum material placed on the back that reflects the heat of the body and retains heat is "Mega Heat".
Of course, it is equipped with the three elements necessary for winter clothing, waterproof, windproof, and moisture permeability, and because there is an adjustment function in the cuffs and hem, you can shut out the outside air as much as possible. There are 8 sizes from S to 6L, so you can choose the one that fits your body perfectly.
The first point of Mega Heat: Heat-retaining material "Mega Heat"
After all, it is the aluminum material "Mega Heat" that is the origin of the product name. At first glance, it looks like just a plain piece of aluminum fabric, but when you actually put it on, it becomes so warm that you feel as if you are in a different space inside the clothes. Of course, the moisture permeability effect is also high, there is no such thing as steamy inside, and always keeps a dry feeling.
The second point of Mega Heat: sufficient waterproof and breathable performance
Water repellent performance is also fully secured.
Water pressure resistance: With 5,000mm / 2,000g/m2 /24h moisture permeability, it is able to withstand light rain. It may be that I just bought it, but the fabric is actually very water repellent and does not stain.
The third point of Mega Heat: with a retractable hood.
It is also a design point, but the hood can also be used when it suddenly rains. The hood itself has an adjustment function to reduce flapping, but it can also be stowed away when riding long distances. I usually leave my hoodies stowed basically because I have a lot of opportunities to wear them as innerwear.
What you'll find when you actually use it
I immediately put on the jacket I received and went to work. At this time of year, the temperature in the morning (7:00AM) is around 3 degrees Celsius, freezing cold. But when I put on the Mega Heat, it was a wonder. I can ride in the warm air as if I were in a different space. Of course, there was no wind at all, and the 30-minute commute to work, which I would normally spend clinging to the handlebars, passed easily.
Finally, here are my impressions of using the workwear this time. I've always insisted on wearing a motorcycle jacket when I ride a motorcycle, but this is such a great product that I feel like I don't have to be particular about motorcycle jackets if the performance is this good and the price is so low. I highly recommend that you try it at least once. I am sure it will change your sense of value.
