Kawasaki KLX150 Owner Review

Introducing a passionate story of Kohiya who ride KLX150, from Webike Community's "My Beloved Moto" campaign.

He shared his review of the KLX150, including the advantage and the disadvantage, which he understands well because he is the owner.

Brief self-introduction

Motorcycle history and how I usually enjoy my motorcycle.

I have been riding motorcycles for 15 years. After 6 years of riding, I decided to let go of my first motorcycle, a Yamaha XV400 Virago, which was 18 years old at the time of purchase, and switched to a newer Suzuki ST250 due to the Virago's unsatisfactory features, age, and tank capacity.

After 5 and a half years, I got interested in off-road and switched to 18 years old Yamaha Serow 225 again. Due to the effects of the Corona disaster, his mental health has been affected and he has not been able to ride a motorcycle. I'm currently in rehabilitation. *Posting as part of my rehabilitation.

How long have you been riding this motorcycle?
January 2019-present.

Motive for purchase and use
The primary motivation for purchase was intuition and appearance. Minimalist displacement and size. It was a motorcycle that I thought was as cool as the Virago. I use it for commuting, day touring down the road for about 200km, and off-road play on the riverbed.

Satisfaction

For applications

It is light and compact enough to be ridden easily, with enough fuel efficiency for commuting by bicycle. The tail is flat from the seat, and with the side bags installed, you can pack a huge amount of luggage and still have room for business-related shopping.

In off-roading, it has the fun of motocross only in the mood, unlike the fun of challenging difficult terrain of the Serow, and it is suitable for playing alone.
In touring, it is easy on the wallet with a fuel economy of over 45km/L. The power is minimal and not excessive for day touring.

For riding
The engine rotates lightly and has a relaxed feeling that I like. The riding posture is not cramped and fits my physique perfectly. The rigidity of the body is high, and the motorcycle feels safe for its size.

For appearance
The headlight is not a big tulip-shaped headlight like an Asian motorcycle, but a moderately odd-shaped headlight. It has a cool motocrosser-like shuffling line from shroud to tail. The tires are large relative to the body and look light.

Dissatisfaction

For applications
I'm afraid of trouble because it's not a Japanese model. I am uncertain about the availability and compatibility of parts necessary for maintenance.

For riding
Perhaps it was because of the 144cc displacement, or perhaps it was because the original 19/16-inch tires had been enlarged to full size, but even on a slight uphill slope, the motorcycle could only accelerate to a little over 80km/h on top 5-gear. Also, because of this, the number of rear sprockets is 52 (stock), and there is no domestic compatible product. The front suspension is poor for off-road use, and if you are not careful, the motorcycle will bottom out easily.
It may be a little front heavy.

For appearance
If I had to say, the OEM blinkers were too obvious. So I changed it to clear lenses to reduce their presence a bit. The headlight shape is good, but it's huge compared to the Serow or WR.

Summary

If you are a light off-roader with a small physique and can forgive the fact that it is not authorized in Japan, I think this is a good introductory model. Also, since it is a carbureted model, it is good for those who want to play around with it.

If you feel that the KLX230 is too big, the CRF250L is too heavy, or the Serow is too special, this is the one for you.
