What’s the Truth About the GSX1300R Hayabusa? [Owner’s Review Summary]

SUZUKI HAYABUSA-FALCON Motorcycle Reviews

SUZUKI GSX1300R Hayabusa (Falcon) owner's review

This is a collection of an "Owner's Review Summary" of various motorcycles based on the real voices of owners who are actually riding or have ridden it, from Webike Community's My Bike. In this article, I will be sharing the real voices of owners about the GSX1300R Hayabusa (Falcon)!

Honestly, this is what Hayabusa is!

Hayabusa is SUZUKI's famous mega-sports model. It became popular around the world due to its unique form, the "Hayabusa" name, and its popularity as the "world's fastest motorcycle". Many owners who have chosen a Hayabusa have considered it because of its high profile recognition, saying that it would be the Hayabusa someday. Nowadays, each manufacturer's flagship model exceeds 300 km/h or 200 horsepower, but the sound of the world's fastest motorcycle has never faded. As a result, even people who don't know anything about motorcycles know the name "Hayabusa"!

Most of the owners use it for touring, so it seems to be popular as a touring motorcycle not only for its maximum speed and power, but also for its surprisingly easy position and the ease of handling that enables it to handle city riding. Moreover, there were many voices of robustness and low failure rate. The models compared were the "ZZR1100" and "CBR1100XX Super Blackbird", which were competing for the highest speed in those days. There are even STD touring motorcycles like the Ninja 1000, so if you're looking motorcycle over 1000cc that's mainly for touring, be sure to check out the Hayabusa!

One of the dissatisfactions of the Hayabusa is the heat of the engine and the leaning of the side stand when hanging the side stand, which is the fate of large motorcycles. In terms of maintenance, it was mentioned that consumables such as tire costs are high, the cowl is difficult to attach/detach, and maintenance is not great. Some riders have switched to it because it has too much power. Power is also an advantage, but for some riders, it's too much to carry if it doesn't suit the purpose.

Brief summary

  • The unique form and specs of the flagship model is a kind of adoring presence.
  • Many fans fell in love at first sight and wanted to ride someday
  • The Hayabusa is actually easy to handle and ideal for long tours despite its power and appearance.
  • Hard to break, but be careful about maintenance costs and servicing.
  • If you're considering a flagship model, mega-sport or tourer, you should consider it.

So here's what some reviews of the owners who actually ride the Hayabusa!

Purchase motive, purpose, and comparison model

Purchase motive

  • I wanted to ride it once.
  • Over 100 horsepower.
  • When I'm having trouble deciding on my first motorcycle after getting a large motorcycle, I knew only the name since I wasn't interested in motorcycles, so I bought it somehow.
  • Since I give up my oil-cooled 1100 in 1988, I thought it would be a SUZUKI someday, and I came back to SUZUKI with a Falcon that is larger than the smaller super sports.
  • I bought it when I was 40 years old because I thought fast and heavy motorcycles would be more difficult to purchase when I got older. 10 years later, I'm still not ready to give it up. But how many years will I be able to ride?
  • I purchased it for long-distance travel in pillion riding.
  • I considered Hayabusa, which was claimed to be the fastest motorcycle in the world.
  • It was released when I was in junior high school and it was love at first sight. I finally bought it more than 10 years later.

For purpose

  • For touring once or twice a month
  • For 1 night and 2 days of touring with high speed
  • Mainly commuting 25km one way and touring on weekends and holidays, riding about 1,000km on a day trip.

Model comparison

  • ZZR1100 D
  • Super Blackbird
  • New Katana
  • Ninja 1000

Satisfaction / Advantages

For purpose

  • High-speed fuel consumption of over 20km per liter. 16km per liter is available even on the street.
  • It can carry a surprising amount of luggage.
  • It is easy to ride in spite of the claim that it can do 300km/h, and it is not too much of a hassle for commuting in Tokyo.
  • The handlebars are not low, just far and that makes it easier to go long touring.
  • The seat is soft and deep, so try to sit on it once.

For riding performance

  • It's not just fast, it's gentle and can ride slowly.
  • It's probably the last high-powered model on the market, but it's a great pleasure to ride as it has no electronic controls other than ABS.
  • It is normally fast. The size is big, but it is obviously small compared to the GL I used to ride.
  • When you look at the specs, you might get intimidated, but it's very easy to handle and fun to ride.

For appearance

  • I like it, but I prefer my own favorite style.
  • The meter is easy to read, and it's probably praised for being cool.

Dissatisfaction / Disadvantages

For purpose

  • After the side stands touches the ground, leaning one step further can be scary until you get used to it.
  • The heat from the engine seems to be too much in the summer.

For riding performance

  • I feel like sometimes I get spotted by police officers, especially when I'm riding on the highway (lol).

For appearance

  • The tail cowl doesn't fit surprisingly though it's not a big deal.

Reasons for switching (giving up) this motorcycle?

  • It has too much power.

Advice to prospective buyers (about maintenance and failure experience)

Failure experience

  • Unexpectedly sturdy and trouble-free.
  • The super-durable, Japanese product is truly unbreakable. I never had any trouble with it.

Maintenance

  • If it is a new car, it may not break down, but it requires a certain amount of funds.
  • If it's about 10,000 km a year, you can ride it for 5 years with just tires and legal costs.
  • Tires are expensive. I think it depends on the shop and tire manufacturer, but the tires cost around 650 to 750 USD for the front and rear tire respectively.
  • Even when changing the oil element, it is necessary to remove the cowl. Also, it is difficult to remove and install the cowl, and maintenance is poor.

Recommendation

  • Recommended for a rider who wants to own a flagship model,
  • For a rider who is mainly interested in long touring, and
  • For a rider who wants to enjoy the customization.
