YAMAHA MT-07 Owner's Review

We will introduce Shibu's passionate story about his riding experience with his beloved motorcycle, MT-07, from Webike community "My Beloved Moto" campaign. He told us about his review of the MT-07, including its advantages and disadvantages, which he knows well because he's the owner.

Shibu's Brief Self-introduction

  • Motorcycle history and how I enjoy riding my motorcycle

I have been riding a motorcycle for about 35 years since I started riding a moped. There was a gap of several months on the way due to an accident etc., but I have continued to ride up to here without elaboration.

Excluding mopeds, I've been riding the NS250R → RGV250γ → GSXR750 → GSXR1100 → GPZ900R → ZX-11 → CBR1100XX → MT-07. It mainly uses for touring, including camping, like going to my parents' house, touring with friends, and a solo long touring.

I started camping as a tool for long touring after riding the MT-07, but I am also getting into camping main touring. Although MT-07 has a problem in the loading capacity, I am overcoming it by looking at the wisdom of the predecessors on online. Now that the standard shape has been created, I am quite satisfied with it.

  • How long have you been riding this motorcycle?

I have been riding it since December 2015 up to present

  • Purchasing motive/purpose

Since my previous motorcycle was the CBR1100XX, I was looking for a lightweight middle motorcycle as I was getting hesitant to ride due to its heavyweight. I was able to take a test ride and felt satisfied, so I decided to pick it. Also, my previous motorcycle was accepted at a good price. The fact that it was within my budget for a new motorcycle was also a big factor. By the way, this is the first time I've had a new motorcycle.

Satisfaction / Advantage

  • For purpose

It's lightweight and easy to ride and has good fuel economy, so it's great for touring.

  • For riding

There is no problem in city riding or normal high speed riding.

  • For appearance

I personally like the appearance.

Dissatisfaction/Disadvantage

  • For purpose

If the fuel tank was a little bigger, I would feel more comfortable on long tours. And of course, since it's a naked motorcycle, I think you need to be prepared for the effects of the wind at high speeds. The seats could be a little better too since there are just motorcycles with cowl until then. (I changed the seat from the outside brand.)

  • For riding

I don't have any complaints about it, as I don't ride it aggressively.

  • For appearance

There is nothing to complain about since I also like the appearance.

Summary (Recommended for riders)

Perhaps the usage is different, but fuel consumption is 25km or more with regular fuel (in the case of my riding style), and the ferry may be slightly cheaper because it's less than 750cc, so it is best for touring.

I've been to Hokkaido in the north and Kagoshima in the south with my MT-07. It's lightweight, so I don't hesitate to get into the more adventurous roads. Although there is a difficulty in the loading capacity, but I have overcome it by devising it.

The ability to ride the way you want to without worrying about road conditions or where to stop (such as on a slope) while being pocket-friendly, makes it a great ally for the budget-conscious rider.
