As mentioned above, the design of the MT-03 has been changed around the front of the car. The actual size is slightly larger in width and height than the previous model due to the change in handle position. In terms of overall length, it's about the same as before. The weight is also a little heavier due to the ABS and inverted front forks, but in pushing and pulling, it's It didn't bother me at all.

Along with the front mask and inverted forks, the air-intake style cover and The under-cowl contributes to the volume of the body.

The seat height remains the same as the previous model at 780mm, so the footing is relatively good.If you are 170cm tall, your feet will be sticky to the heels of both feet.
When our 155cn staff stepped on the bike, they were able to get both feet on the ground, although they had to stand on their toes.It does not have a lot of leg room, but the handlebars are at a good height so it is very stable and supportive.

Tail lights will continue to be LED

The tail lights have not changed significantly in design, but the front and rear blinkers now feature slim LED blinkers.
The new YZF-R3 does not have LED blinkers, so this is the first time Yamaha has used LED blinkers on a vehicle in its class range.

Conventional meters

As with the new YZF-R3, the analog tachometer and the digital meter are the same. From the combination, we have a new full LCD meter that has been adopted. The tachometer has a finely set bar, so it responds to the throttle work in great detail. Important information such as the fuel system, water temperature gauge, and shift indicator on the clock will continue to be displayed as well.

44mm up handle

mt03_20_27.jpg

The handlebars have been increased by 44mm to make it easier to ride in everyday situations such as around town. This is a 44mm increase from the model. Because the upper body is in an upright position, it is also possible to ride long distances and handling while straddling. It's getting easier.

The handlebar switch is also designed to be compact, with an integrated cell and kill switch.

Inverted forks and radial tires

mt03_20_34.jpg

Along with the front mask and gauges, the new 37mm inner tube diameter inverted front forks. The inverted forks provide greater rigidity and less unsprung weight. The switch to inverted forks not only increases the intensity of the front end, but also provides a more nimble handling experience. It also contributes to improved ground contact feel during braking.

There are no major changes around the brakes, but ABS is now standard, with corresponding front and rear ABS. In addition, the new MT-03 has radial tires. The radial tires provide better grip and lighter handling.

The 320cc engine that gives you a sense of leeway.

mt03_20_24.jpg

Total displacement: 320 cm3
Maximum output: 31 kW (42 PS) / 10,750 r/min
Maximum torque: 29 N-m (3.0kgf-m) / 9,000 r/min

The 320cc engine, which is shared with the new YZF-R3, has a maximum output of 42PS. The engine is inherently easy to handle in the low and mid-range, so you can feel the stress even when driving around town and in other urban areas. It will run without any problems. Of course, if you rev it up to high rpm, you can feel the nice acceleration with a crisp exhaust note.

Tank capacity: 14L

The new tank design is designed in conjunction with the changes around the front. The width of the tank has been enlarged by 51mm to give it the volume of a big bike, while also allowing the rider and It is shaped so that the fit is not compromised.

High footing and flexibility of the seat

mt03_20_01.jpg

mt03_20_02.jpg

mt03_20_06.jpg

The design of the seat, which has been narrowed around the tank area, allows for better footing.
There was only enough storage space under the seat for documents, and on-board tools.

I actually ran it.

I took it for a test drive mainly for city driving and highway cruising.
The first thing I felt was the lightness of the chassis. It has a 320cc engine in common with the MT-25, so we were able to compare it to the 250cc class bike. We were able to experience the same ease of handling and lightness of handling. Especially in handling, the handlebars are about 40mm higher than the previous model, which makes the upper body feel more comfortable. It's much easier to get into position, but once the car is winding down, you can get a sense of unity with the car body by simply getting down. It's an aggressive, street-fighter-like ride with the added bonus of a lighter weight .

The power and torque are more generous than the 250cc, and I was able to cruise through high gears and low revs with no stress.
The 6th gear revs are around 3,500 rpm at 60 km/h without any jitters in town. I was able to cruise around and felt comfortable driving at about 6,000 rpm at 100 km/h. Of course, if you put it in the right gears and get the revs up, the car accelerates without a hitch, so we were able to drive it on the highways The ride is now smoother, even in situations where you want to accelerate, such as the merging of two vehicles.

With the inverted front fork, the weight under the spring has been reduced to reduce the weight of the front fork. Aside from its lightness, it seems to have more stability, especially under braking. Although there are no changes to the brake area, the front end of the car feels much better under braking. The forks twist less and the tires feel well loaded.

The MT-03 is definitely a multi-purpose bike with power that can be used for everything from around town to high speed driving. The cost of maintenance will go up a bit in terms of maintenance as it is 250cc and above, but it is It was a fun and comfortable car to complement.
