SUZUKI GSX-S125 Owner's Review

We will introduce Mr. Wawa's passionate story about his riding experience with his beloved motorcycle, GSX-S125, from Webike community "My Beloved Moto" campaign. He shared with us the advantages and disadvantages review of the GSX-S125, which he knows well because he's the owner.

[Wawa's Brief Introduction]

Motorcycle History
At first, I was interest more on four-wheeled vehicle, but since my first friend way back in college was amotorcyclist. It made me realized that I had give a try riding a motorcycle. Since then, I got interested in pillion riding after I got to ride it once. This is totally different from a car. In motorcycle, the tachometer spins and your body is exposed to the wind. Motorcycle has a great sense of operability.

After that, I got my medium-sized license at the age of 19. Since then, I never stopped riding my motorcycle. So, I've rding for about 20 year already. I just didn't noticed it but I only owned SUZUKI motorcycle in the past 20 years. I have heard that SUZUKI's avid fan riders are called "Tin Fungus"..Well, I don't see my myself like one of them at first.

But now, I see myself thinking about it again, my first mid-sized machine was GSX-R400 or ZXR400 and my first large-sized machine was GSX-. I was confused between R750W or CBR900RR. Therefore, if my chosen motorcycle were different, my motorcycle history would be completely different by now. So, it's possible that I am one of them.

How to enjoy standard motorcycle?
Few years ago, I used to own two motorcycle, one for "Commuting" and the other one is for "Weekend Use". But now, I only have one machine left for weekend use because my riding opportunities were drastically lessen since I started my own family. (I gave up my two-seater motorcycle for the same reason.) So, it is mainly used for commuting to work. (Regardles of the weather) And, sometime I go out for a while on weekends without affecting my time for my family.

How long have you been riding that motorcycle?
I bought this last fall and still using it until now. So, I think it's been about 6 months now. With a mileage of about 4000km.

Reason of Buying this model
My main purpose of buying this model is like what I have metioned, it is for 'Commuting" and "Weekend Use" but for commuting, its a great way of reducing the number of times you need to ride for work. It can be used for both "Commuting and Weekend Use". Aside from that, there was this strange sound coming from the front end of the machine when I went for a long-distance touring trip with a distance of 600km away from my home. After being confuse about what to do which I had this "horrible experience" of receiving the item at home with fear, I've decided to do it on my new mootorcycle. (Until now, I've been changing used motorcycle from time to time rather than riding new motorcycle for a long time because I've already decide to do so.)

I chose this vehicle based on the overall judgment that it can be used for both commuting and weekend use, that a new motorcycle = a clear-cut identity, that it is relatively inexpensive (a high performance luxury motorcycle is too good to use for commuting), and that it equipped with a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission.

[Satisfactory Point/Advantages]

For Application
Anyways, it is light for its body size. It is not light as the old second model but, it is quite easy to handle. And, you can ride it easily because it is a compact type. In case of large type motorcycle, I have that feeling of "Here we go! But with this model, no need for me to be ovebearing. You can use it easily to a not so quite "City Scooter" but I had that feeling same as that.

For Riding
It is a 125cc but the speed (Up to 100km/h) comes out as it is since it is equipped with 6-gear. So, you can follow the flow of the vehicle on an ordinary road. It is easy to slow down on a slope area but it wiill cause you trouble if you make full use of the 6-gear. Riders often said that this motorcycle has this featue which is "The Goodness of the Blow-up because of DOHC" but, in my personal opinion I think it is not "peaky".

But, the truth is that the torque is thin at the very low speed range. It's a single cylinder with 125cc engine displacement. Well, this may be the reason why it is called as "Turn it and what".

The disadvantage thing on this model is that the tires are thin and you cannot adjust the suspension for both initial and damping side but, at least I can ride, stop and bend my arms (City/Sprots Riding without having my knees rub). I have no disadvantage with the basic performance that much. (But, its not really nothing at all. It will be discuss at the later part.)

But, this is why you can't make various settings. In a way, you can't adjust the way you ride through "Cheating". Therefore, I think what is important is the basic maintenance like changing the oil drastically if you want to change the oil on the front fork after 3000km.

For Appearance
I think the style of a Street Fighter is not bad. (Except for the area around the headlights... The coloring is semi-gloss black which is actually my favorite. For me, I think SUZUKI = Blue (I don't call it Triton Blue but I call it Pearl SUZUKI Deep Blue) era. However, this is the first model I've chosen for Black.

Then, it looks cheaper because the side frame cover was change to black by minor (From the early modle). It is also good that it is made even more "Black" to make uniform with the plastic.

[Unsatisfactory Point/Disadvantages]

For Application
It may be the recent trent of the motorcycle nowadays but I can't fit any luggage in the rear seat. It doesn't even fit in a booklet-type record book, and you can see how un-loadable it is from the fact that the instruction manual says to "fold it up and store" even deed-related documents. Also, the helmet hook on the rear seat is very difficult to use.

The reason for this is that the hook found on the rear seat side (Not only the body side) and the shape of the hook are small. I am patiently using it at first but "I'm sure one of this days, I will quite". I added a retrofit lock because I like it. (I didn't want to add this because I have one more key.)

Also, the motorccycle I'm using nw does not have "Hazard Switch" (The current model has one.) Well, I plan to add this one after another.

For Riding
I have this impression that the braking performance when it comes to riding during rainy weather is quite extreme. It won't stop if you grip the brake lever the same way you do on "sunny days". You might want to put in some good brake pads.
Onother thing is that the footpegs are too high. (Just my personally opinion)

For as long as it is under the family od GSX-R125, it may be inevitable but the body posture may be too "tight". And, it is not"spacious" like atraining motorycle like CB. Also, my riding position shifts to the front of the seat naurally everythime I rider for a long time. (That is what we call a "Little Ride".

And, the LED Headlight. I don't feel that the headlight are bright even if it is consist of a lot of lights because it it does not spread literally. And, it may not be related to its running performance directly but.. I was wondering and like to see something done about "Stalling". (According to the dealer, they'veheard a lot of similar problems with thid") (I'm one of them.)

I get impatient when I stall at the front of the light, really.

For Appearance
For me, I don't like the shaed around the light. It seems that the headlight is sticking out in the front part like an insect. By the way, I am aslo not a fan of KAWASAKI Z1000 2014- for the same reason. (Sorry if you used it)

(Right now, I installed an upper cowl on it and finally at an acceptable level for me.)

[Summary (Recommended Riders)]

I personally like to see riders who are using "Big Engine Displacement" and "Big Power" to ride this motorcycle and they should be able to experience the fun of this model. Don't get me wrong, but I don't think this is a motorcycle for beginners (Pro Version).

(I don't mean just "Professional" but I think it is difficult for beginners to understand how good this motorcycle is.) I've been so much inlove with "Big Power" and "Big Displacement Sounds" (EVIL Tube at that time) but in a strange event, I discovered a joy from small motorcycles. The interesting part of this motorcycle is not the "speed", nor "Power" but its the "Controlability" and "Over-caring". I think my style is exactly like this. And, I came to realize it until I reached 15 years on my motorcycle career.

To be honest, I pretty cheat and I am not sure it I will be riding this motorcycle again next year and the year after than for any other reason. But, I think this model fits my style right now. I owned it and I'm going to enjoy it this time.
