[Test Ride Review] GSX400 IMPULSE in Limited Color

1-main1.jpg Motorcycle Reviews

The IMPULSE special edition is finished with vivid red and black graphic colors. These colors are the image colors of YOSHIMURA, a world leading racing tuning company that also has a deep relationship with SUZUKI. The red and black graphic colors were designed to the IMPULSE when it first launched in 1982 and will no doubt remind riders over 40 of the motorcycle trend and production bike race craze that went on at the time.

SUZUKI's representational 400cc class Road Sports model is the GSR400. The IMPULSE is a basic naked that offers comfortable engine performance and stable steering. It accelerates powerfully with a low bass sound which smoothly rises to high rev maintaining strong torque. The controllability at low to medium rev is focused rather on straight-line stability. It will keep stable even when it comes across wheel tracks or joints. It has a sense of unity that is totally different from the light control of YAMAHA XJR400 or rigidness of KAWASAKI ZEPHYR X. It doesn't mean that it's not good with mountain passes. It will offer high quality performance if you are careful with load shift when you tilt the bike. This is a result of well balanced suspension setting, frame rigidity and excellent tire grip and will offer you comfort even on long tours.

There is nothing special to quote about this machine, in other words it won't bore you. The GSX400 IMPULSE is finished faithfully with what is meant to be the primary role for naked models. (Photograph: Takayuki Minami/Sentence: Yasuji Ohta)
