In 1961, Yamaha Motor began competing in the Road Race World Championship (WGP), the world's premier motorcycle motorsports event, and 2021 marks the company's 60th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, the "YZR-M1" in its 60th anniversary color was unveiled for the first time in the world at the MotoGP official test held at Qatar's Losail International Circuit on March 10, with development rider Cal Crutchlow riding the motorcycle.

Based on the motif of the YZR500 (0W48), a factory machine that competed in the 500cc class in 1980, the YZR-M1 features the traditional livery of red lines on white background used since 1964. Sixty years after the start of the competition, the new livery pays tribute to the passion for racing and the challenging spirit of the riders and their predecessors and also expresses Yamaha Motor's strong determination to return to its roots and continue to take on new challenges. In 2021, two teams and four riders will compete in MotoGP, which is scheduled to start soon, and many other Yamaha teams will participate in races around the world, aiming to share their excitement with the people of the world through victory.

In addition, a special website celebrating the 60th anniversary of Yamaha's participation in the WGP has been launched, featuring a video digest of the 60-year history of the race and images of the riders.

For 60 years we have been able to compete in the Road Race World Championship thanks to the support of our fans, sponsors, and suppliers. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the many riders who have raced with us and to our predecessors for their tireless efforts. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude.
Since last year, the world has been severely affected by a new coronavirus infection that has been rampant, and the situation is still severe.

In February this year, we announced that we would continue to participate in the MotoGP World Championship for five years from 2022 to 2026, and the 60th anniversary color of the YZR-M1 is not just a milestone to look back on the footsteps of our predecessors. The YZR-M1 in the 60th-anniversary color is not only a milestone to look back on the footsteps of our predecessors, but also an expression of our determination to have the same passion as our predecessors, believe in the power of motorsports, and deliver excitement to the world.
We look forward to seeing you at Yamaha in 2021.
