BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team moved up to third place in the FIM Endurance World Championship after Sylvain Guintoli, Steven Odendaal and Markus Reiterberger joined forces to finish second in the 8 Hours of Spa Motos on Saturday.
One of several outfits to lead the rain-hit event in Belgium, BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team’s first podium of 2025 means it’s 19 points behind the pacesetting Yamalube YART Yamaha EWC Official Team in the title standings at the halfway point of the season.
And Guintoli, who started the #37 BMW M 1000 RR and set a new race lap record, said there was plenty more to come from the Belgian outfit: “Once again, like in Le Mans, it was challenging with the conditions, it was tough and for us we struggled a bit in the wet, unfortunately, so we still need to dial in our package. It’s a stepping stone again, the team keeps growing, keeps getting better. Today we had a really, really good pace in the dry, I feel like it’s coming.
“I know you shouldn’t be disappointed when you’re on the podium but we’re a little bit disappointed because Werner Daemen, our team manager, and our team are based in Belgium so it would have been nice to give the team a home victory. But we fought hard, made no mistakes and for the championship this is an important day for us.”
Christian Gonschor, BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s Technical Director, said: “As always, Spa was an incredibly intense event. This track often requires riding in wet conditions, and our riders had to perform at the highest level in both practice and the race. Notably, we set by far the fastest lap time in dry conditions, clearly demonstrating the potential of the BMW M 1000 RR. Our riders had great pace. Unfortunately, most of the race was wet with rapidly changing conditions. Tyre choices between slicks, intermediates, and wets were critical – and we always made the right call but in such a competitive field, finding the right pace remains extremely challenging. We’re very happy to have scored valuable points with second place.”
