Sylvain Guintoli won’t contest the FIM Endurance World Championship season-deciding Bol d’Or next month.
The former EWC champion, who helped Yoshimura SERT Motul win the event last season, had been due to contest the 24-hour race as part of the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team line-up. However, he has confirmed his absence from the Circuit Paul Ricard-based round for personal reasons, for which he has the full support of the entire EWC family and beyond.
“I am devastated to sat that our youngest son has been diagnosed with cancer,” Guintoli said. “Our little boy is fighting like a champ and our family is united to support him. Unfortunately this means I will miss the last Endurance World Championship race, as well as the next few MotoGP races with TNTSports.
“We want to thank the NHS Children Oncology Team, BMW, NorthOne and WBD for their support in these difficult times.”
Guintoli’s replacement for the Bol d’Or is expected to be announced in the coming days, while every good wish is extended to the Frenchman and his family.
