Doriano Vietti-Ramus would be open to more FIM Endurance World Championship action despite the “crazy” weather he experienced during the Le Mans season opener last month – and a dramatic final 45 minutes to the 24 Heures Motos.

Vietti-Ramus received a late call to join 3ART Best of Bike in place of the injured Alex Plancassagne and partnered new team-mates Christopher Kemmer, Guillaume Pot and Maiku Watanuki to the final place on the Superstock podium in 11th overall.

With no previous experience of the EWC or Circuit Bugatti, Italian rider Vietti-Ramus took the running start in 28th position but dropped back to 46th overall before the fightback began.

However, with 45 minutes of the race remaining, Watanuki fell at the final corner. Although the Japanese rider was given the all-clear following medical checks, the #36 Dunlop-equipped Yamaha was brought back to the pitlane having sustained significant damage. But such was the team’s advantage in third place that repairs were made in time for the squad to get back on track with a 52-second gap to the next FIM Endurance World Cup-registered outfit and secure third place.

It’s really beautiful because all the team don’t think to this result because we are all new in the team, Vietti-Ramus said afterwards. For me it’s the first time in EWC and the first time in Le Mans and I am so happy for the result. We do a really good job so thanks to all my team-mates and my team.

The track is wonderful, the start [format] is really good but I don’t do a good start because I have some problem but the most difficult thing was the weather, it’s crazy because every hour you have a different track and different weather and also the night is really tough for all the riders if you are professional or not professional. It’s a hard thing to do.

Asked whether further EWC appearances are possible, Vietti-Ramus said:

I don’t know. I had a call from the team 3ART two weeks before the race because their rider Alex take an injury so I take the opportunity but I don’t know, I see with the team if it’s good to have me in the team. For me it’s a good opportunity so why not.

Vietti-Ramus followed up his Le Mans heroics by winning the opening round of the Pirelli Cup Superbike 1000 series at Vallelunga the following weekend.

The 2024 EWC resumes with the 8 Hours of Spa Motos at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium form 6-8 June.
