Harley-Davidson Japan has announced that it will start selling Harley's first adventure touring models, the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special, for pre-order in Japan from February 24 (Wed). The Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special will be available for pre-order in Japan from 2,310,000 yen and 2,731,300 yen, respectively, including tax.

Both models are powered by the newly developed, liquid-cooled, 1,250cc, large displacement V-twin Revolution Max 1250 engine. To keep the overall weight of the motorcycle to a minimum, the engine is built into the center of the chassis and has been specially tuned to provide smooth low-end torque and low-speed throttle control for off-road riding.

In addition to the ability to select multiple driving modes using the touch screen, the new model also features a number of new technologies designed to enhance the riding experience, including enhanced cornering safety features.

The Pan America 1250 Special comes standard with electronically controlled, semi-active front and rear suspension. Using data from sensors mounted on the motorcycle, the system automatically controls the damping force according to the road surface and riding conditions. This progressive system provides excellent off-road support while maintaining a comfortable on-road ride.

An adaptive ride height (ARH) function, which automatically adjusts the seat height, is also standard equipment, providing both stability during driving and a comfortable footing when the vehicle is stopped.

The Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special, the first adventure touring models designed and built in the U.S., will be shipped to various countries in sequence, starting with North America in May 2021, and are expected to be available for delivery to Japan from around July.

The "Pan America 1250/Special" will be on display at authorized dealers nationwide from February 26 (Fri.). This is your chance to see and ride on the "Pan America 1250/Special.

Lightweight liquid-cooled V-twin Revolution Max 1250 engine and optimized chassis

A newly developed engine combines high power of 1250cc with a lightweight of the powertrain, allowing up to 9,500rpm (rev limit) and maximum torque of 128Nm/6,750 rpm, with a compression ratio of 13:1.

The front frame, mid-frame, and tail section are bolted directly to the powertrain in a design that reduces the motorcycle's weight and eliminates the need for a conventional frame while providing a rigid chassis that also contributes to precise handling. Optimized for touring (especially with passengers and luggage), it provides the agile handling needed for off-road maneuverability.

Touch screen display and selectable driving modes

The Pan America 1250 is equipped with a 6.8" TFT touch screen. It is designed with a non-reflective glass cover for easy viewing in most lighting conditions (touch operation is disabled while riding). In addition to fuel and speed displays, the display also allows the selection of multiple riding modes by electronically controlling the motorcycle's technology intervention level.

In addition to the Sport Mode for direct and intuitive performance riding, the Road Mode for balanced daily use, the Rain Mode for safety performance in rough weather, the Off-Road Mode for unpaved roads and moderate off-road situations, and the Off-Road + Mode for high level off-roading such as lifting the front wheel to clear obstacles. The rider can also register a Custom Mode that can be arranged to their own liking.

Harley-Davidson's advanced safety technology, RDRS Safety Enhancements

The motorcycle will be equipped with RDRS Safety Enhancements (formerly known as RDRS) advanced safety technology. A range of technologies designed to adjust the performance of the motorcycle according to traction during acceleration, deceleration, and braking is designed to help the rider maintain control of the motorcycle when accelerating or braking on rough roads or when riding in unexpected conditions. It is designed to help the rider control the motorcycle when accelerating or braking in rough or unexpected conditions.

Brembo Brakes

Harley-Davidson has worked with Brembo to co-develop an all-new braking system. The new radial monoblock 4-piston (30mm) calipers take full advantage of the material's properties to increase stiffness while reducing overall weight. Dual front brake rotors are 320mm diameter and single rear brake rotors are 280mm diameter. The new lighter front brake master cylinder offers an adjustable lever response.

Semi-active front and rear suspension with vehicle road control

This electronically adjustable suspension system uses sensor data to automatically control damping force, based on components manufactured by SHOWA, with control software developed by Harley-Davidson. In addition to the selected riding mode, the system responds to suspension position, vehicle speed, motorcycle vertical acceleration, roll angle, roll rate, rider applied throttle, and brake torque to maintain motorcycle comfort. Vehicle Load Control also senses the weight of the rider, passenger, and luggage and automatically adjusts the rear pre-load to select the optimum suspension sag.

US specifications

Adaptive Ride Height (ARH)

This new technology is the first of its kind in the industry to provide an automatic transition between lowering the seat height while stationary or stopped and the optimal ride height while riding. This groundbreaking system eliminates the problem of "poor footing at a standstill" that is often associated with adventure motorcycles (ARH is added to the suspension described above to detect the weight of the rider, passenger, and luggage and automatically adjusts to determine the optimal ride height). ). The seat height is 830mm (32.7-inch) in the low position and 873mm (34.4-inch) in the high position. There are also five sub-modes that can be selected by the rider, allowing the ride height to be adjusted according to the scene and preference.

More powerful support for rider safety

The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) shows the current front and rear tire pressures on the display screen and provides an indicator to warn the rider when the pressure is low. The tubular brush guard is also designed to protect the radiator and support the motorcycle in the event of a fall. The heavy-duty aluminum skid plate is designed to protect the engine crankcase from impact.

US specifications

Center stand and a multi-position rear brake pedal

It comes with a center stand that makes it easy to perform maintenance and change tires at home or in the backcountry. Without the use of tools, the rear brake foot pedal can be changed to two different heights for improved control and comfort when the rider is standing, such as when riding off-road. This improves the motorcycle's controllability and the rider's forward trail visibility.

The Pan America 1250 Special also features Daymaker signature adaptive headlamps, heated handgrips, and hand-wind deflectors, and steering dampers. In addition to the standard Japanese spoked wheels, cast wheels will be available.
