Honda has revised the engine details of its motocross competition-specific CRF450R and enduro competition-specific CRF450RX to improve handling and reduce weight with a newly designed frame. The new models were released on Friday, October 23, 2020.
On both the CRF450R and CRF450RX, the engine's exhaust port has been straightened to improve exhaust efficiency, resulting in increased power output in the mid to high rpm range and easier handling in the low rpm range. The clutch system uses a hydraulic clutch that incorporates know-how gained from racing to improve clutch operation. The frame and swingarm have also been newly designed to optimize body rigidity and reduce weight, resulting in a high level of both turning performance and stability. With the single exhaust system, the side covers and other exterior parts have been significantly slimmed down to give the rider greater freedom of posture when riding.
The CRF450RX is based on the CRF450R, but has enhanced specifications for an enduro model, including a knuckle guard as standard equipment to protect the rider's hands and other parts of the body from stepping stones and branches.
The color scheme for both models is Extreme Red, which expresses the strength and passion that is inherent in Honda's motocross machine identity. Orders period started on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, and ended on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
The CRF450R and CRF450RX may not be ridden on public roads or in areas used for general traffic. The CRF450R and CRF450RX may not be ridden on public roads or in areas used for general traffic, nor may they be registered to obtain a license plate.
Please be careful where you drive. Private roads, forest roads, riverbanks, seasides, and other places not on public roads where people and vehicles can freely enter and exit are considered roads, and are in violation of the Road Traffic Law and the Road Vehicles Law.

Main features of the 2021 model
Engine
- By straightening the exhaust ports and improving exhaust efficiency, the engine's output in the mid to high rpm range is improved, while at the same time it is easier to handle in the low rpm range.
- The layout of the decompression system has been revised to improve combustion stability at extremely low engine speeds, resulting in improved drivability and stall toughness.
- The angle of the injectors has been changed from 30° to 60° to improve air intake efficiency, and the intake and exhaust systems have been revised to improve the torque feel of the engine by reviewing the shape of the air cleaner box and adopting a single exhaust system.
- The clutch system uses a hydraulic clutch that incorporates know-how cultivated in racing to reduce friction and improve clutch operability.
- The number of clutch discs has been changed from seven to eight to increase clutch capacity by 27%, and friction springs have been added to suppress resonance and significantly improve power transmission and durability.
Body
- The newly designed frame optimizes rigidity to achieve a high level of both turning performance and stability, while all components have been thoroughly optimized to achieve a significant weight reduction of approximately 1 kg.
- The front suspension stroke has been increased by 5 mm to improve driving performance and ride comfort.
- Using fluid analysis, air outlet holes were added to the radiator shroud, and the angle and number of fins on the radiator grille were optimized to improve cooling efficiency.
- The materials used for some of the exterior parts, such as the side covers, have been revised, and the bodywork has been made much slimmer with a single exhaust system to improve the rider's freedom of weight transfer.
Other
- By reviewing the seat mounting structure and reducing the number of bolts on the exterior parts, the process up to the air cleaner has been made easier and maintenance has been improved.
- The structure of the air filter has been changed to improve removability, and the structure of the filter has been changed to make it easier to clean and improve maintainability.

Main features of the 2021 model
Enduro model based on the CRF450R with the following changes
- The knuckle guard protects your fists and levers from stepping stones and branches when riding in wooded sections and bushes as standard equipment.
- The side stand has been redesigned to fit the slimmer bodywork, reducing protrusion and weight.
