YAMAHA Motor Co., announced that 4 of their products were awarded as “Good Design Award 2016”, that is sponsored by Japan Institute of Design Promotion. Motorcycle “XSR900” was elected as “Best 100 Of Good Design” this time.
This year, there are total of 4 Good Design Awards of YAMAHA products. These are the motorcycle “XSR900”, sports cruiser “SR320FB” and sports motor-assisted bicycle “YPJ-R”, and the “playing the sound” motor-assisted wheelchair “&Y(Andy)01” of the concept model that was designed in collaboration with YAMAHA Corporation.
The Good Design Award for &Y01 marks the first time in YAMAHA Motor Co. and has received an award together with YAMAHA Corporation.
These award-winning products will be showcased at the Good Design Exhibition 2016 (G Exhibition) to be held from October 28 to November 3 at Tokyo Midtown.

For developed markets that have an established culture of enjoying motorcycles as a hobby, the XSR900 was designed targeting riders who prefer a motorcycle with a more traditional look and style. With its attractive new combination of a simple, “retro” exterior design and modern performance through state-of-the-art technology, this model offers both pride of ownership and a genuinely fun motorcycling experience.
[Judge Comments]
I was impressed to the overwhelming beauty with combined strength and delicacy.
Although, it is advocated as a "Simple Retro", the word "Authentic" is rather more appropriate. The aluminum fuel tank cover that has hairlines by the hands processing of a skilled craftsman can be felt their soul. In addition, the firmly reflecting of aesthetics in all of the function parts that is the engine, suspension, frame and even a small bolt is the reason that creates the authentic impression. The motorcycle that has a strong vehicle of fondness and a well-honed beauty of industrial products suits well. The cost performance that was realized a high texture in about 1 million yen was also highly valued.

■ Sports cruiser "SR320FB"
The “SR320FB” is the first sport cruiser in Japan equipped with the "Helm Master" fully integrated boat control system as standard. It enables intuitive boat control, such as before and after, left and right and the 360-degree swivel, via a single joystick. In addition to its beautiful form, the twin outboard motors bring excellent cost-of-ownership, eco-friendliness, serviceability and space efficiency. With plenty of onboard space, luxury interior appointments and easy operation, the SR320FB makes the boating life more user-friendly.
■ Sports Electrically Power-assisted Bicycle "YPJ-R"
The YPJ-R combines the lightness and excellent performance of a road bike with the advantages of an electric power-assist. It's based on a new concept of “using vehicle for enjoyment”apart from the conventional electric-assist bicycle positioned as a “Practical and Convenient Vehicle”. And, It offers a new way of enjoyment of sport bicycle for young people with a strong interest in cycling and for users who want to comfortably enjoy mid/long-distance riding.
■ Electrically Power Assisted Wheelchair "&Y01" to play the sound
&Y01 (Andy 01) is a working concept model co-created by YAMAHA Corp. and YAMAHA Motor designers with an image of a white yacht sailing through the waves. A JW Swing electric wheelchair mounts a TLF (Thin, Light, Flexible) Speaker shaped like a boat’s sail or a musical note’s flag on the back, and slim percussion instruments on the wheels to create the new experience of "riding a musical instrument." The passenger will be born in a sense of unity with the nature surroundings sound while playing music by moving and performing.
