When the first TMAX model was released in 2001, people were surprised that a scooter could be so sporty. The TMAX has continued to evolve into the TMAX530 and TMAX560, and continues to be at the top end of sports scooters. The 2025 model announced in Europe has a revised design and various equipment has been upgraded.
The 2025 model will also have a major design change.
The current TMAX560 was released in 2022, and in Japan, it is available in two grades: the TMAX560 ABS and the higher-end TMAX560 TECH MAX ABS. The 2025 European models were announced as the TMAX and TMAX TECH MAX, but since this is a difference in the names used in each country, it is safe to assume that the Japanese model will be redesigned to have almost the same specifications as the European model.
The 2025 TMAX has been redesigned with new dual-eye headlights and other body parts, giving it a more manly look. The iconic boomerang side panels, upward-facing exhaust system, and dual seats that Yamaha describes as "sculptural" are all part of the design of the TMAX, and it can be said that the design of each part has been perfected as a sports scooter.
The ever-improving engine complies with EURO5+ emission regulations
The engine is a 562cc DOHC 4-valve parallel twin-cylinder with a horizontally opposed reciprocating piston balancer, delivering a maximum output of 35kW (47.6PS)/7000rpm and a maximum torque of 55Nm/5250rpm. The 2025 model has an improved engine and exhaust system, fully complying with EURO5+ emission regulations.
The engine is mated to an automatic transmission driven via a V-belt, creating a lively and smooth TMAX ride. In addition, the centrifugal clutch settings have been revised to achieve a high level of ride comfort and smoother acceleration from a standstill. The newly designed intake funnel also produces a clearer and gentler sound when the throttle is fully open.
Equipped with the latest brake control system
The frame is an aluminum twin-spar type, which is a tradition of the TMAX, and combines an inverted fork at the front and a long swingarm at the rear to achieve high maneuverability. The wheel size is 15 inches front and rear, and the wheels are made of light, high-strength forged parts to reduce unsprung weight.
The brakes are front and rear disc type, and are equipped with a brake control system called "cornering ABS". Originally developed for Yamaha's high-performance super sports bikes, this brake control system works in conjunction with the anti-lock brake system to minimize brake slip during sudden braking or when riding on low-traction surfaces. Activated by an inertial measurement unit (IMU), the system is developed with the goal of providing the most comfortable braking performance at various speeds, lean angles, and road conditions.
Adopted new 7-inch TFT dashboard
The 7-inch TFT dashboard has been upgraded to offer a choice of three screen layouts, allowing riders to choose the layout that puts the emphasis on the information that matters most to them. In addition, by connecting a smartphone via the "My Ride" app, it is possible to play music, display SMS, and receive call and email notifications.
Will their Japanese debut be at a motorcycle show?
The 2025 TMAX series has been upgraded in overall perfection, with not only better driving performance, but also environmental performance that meets the EURO5+ emission regulations and improved safety through electronic equipment. Honda's rival in the European market, the Forza 750, has also announced a model change, and there are major developments on the big sports scooter front in Europe.
The TMAX and TMAX Tech MAX have evolved further as sports scooters while retaining the concept of the first model, and will likely be available in Japan in the not-too-distant future. Some people may now have one more thing to look forward to, or perhaps one more worry to worry about. This safe, fast, and easy new TMAX is scheduled to be released in Europe in March 2025. Considering this, the timing of its Japanese debut is likely to be around next year's motorcycle show.
