A big change has been announced for YAMAHA's sports touring Tracer 9 series. The biggest topic is the introduction of the electronically controlled shift mechanism Y-AMT to the "Tracer 9 Y-AMT" and "Tracer 9 GT +" following the MT-09 series and MT-07 series. However, the whole series is equipped with a smart key and the world's most advanced motorcycle headlight system "Adaptive Matrix LED Headlight Technology". The TRACER 9 GT & Tracer 9 GT + series equipped with semi-active suspension will also be equipped with an electrically adjustable windscreen.
Following the addition of the ACC specification in 2023, the Y-AMT specification will be released in 2024
The 2025 model of the Tracer 9 series, which underwent a major change in 2021 and has just released the Tracer 9 GT+, YAMAHA's first model equipped with adaptive cruise control for 2023, was announced on October 30th, and it was announced that some specifications will be equipped with Y-AMT.
The TRACER 9 series is a sports tourer that is based on the MT-09's 890cc in-line 3-cylinder engine and aluminum frame, with an extended swingarm, more touring-like riding performance, and comfortable features such as a large screen.
In Japan, the TRACER series (MT-09 Tracer) was released in 2015. In 2018, it gained the same 1500mm wheelbase as the current model, and in 2021 it underwent a big change to include a semi-active electronically controlled suspension and a 6-axis IMU. In 2023, the Tracer 9GT+,YAMAHA's first model equipped with adaptive cruise control, will also be released.
In Japan, only the TRACER 9GT and Tracer 9GT+ will be released, but in Europe, in addition to these, there is also a Tracer 9 without electronically controlled suspension, and this model also has a Y-AMT model. The lineup will be expanded to four models: "TRACER 9", "TRACER 9Y-AMT", "TRACER 9GT", and "Tracer 9GT+". In this article, we will mainly look at the TRACER 9GT and Tracer 9GT+, which are expected to be released in Japan.
2025 Model TRACER 9GT Riding Scene
In addition to the world's most advanced motorcycle headlight system, the seat frame extension makes it even more voluminous!
2025 model TRACER 9GT+. The top-of-the-line TRACER 9GT+ is equipped with semi-active electronically controlled suspension, ACC, and Y-AMT. In Europe, 30-liter pannier cases are standard equipment. The body color is Icon Performance.
First of all, while the styling has inherited the image of the existing model, the overall sense of volume has been significantly increased. This is likely due in large part to the addition of a camera and four light sources for the world's most advanced motorcycle headlight system to the bottom of the headlight. Secondly, a small storage compartment with a USB socket has been added to the right side of the fuel tank.

In addition, the handlebars, footrests, and seating arrangement have also been changed to improve comfort for both the rider and passenger. In particular, the passenger seat has a larger seating area due to the subframe being extended by 50 mm. The rider seat is also flatter and has more padding for improved comfort. Although the seat height has increased to 845 mm, the front part of the seat has been reshaped to be slimmer, so most riders will find it easier to ride than the previous model (Seat Height: 820 mm).

The previous model was not as easy to reach the ground as the MT-09, so this change in seat height is a concern. However, according to Yamaha, although the seat height has been increased by 25 mm, the grounding is better than the previous model, and they mention that "especially for shorter riders, this gives them a greater sense of security and confidence." This is very interesting.
A new storage box has been added to the right side of the fuel tank. It is also equipped with a USB socket, so you can charge your smartphone or other devices.
The dimensions of the 2025 model have also been revised by redesigning the front fork bracket, with the caster and trail now at 24°25′ and 106mm (compared to 25° and 108mm for the previous model). The minimum turning radius has also increased from 3.1m to 2.9m due to the increased steering angle. Although the body has become more voluminous and the seat height has been raised, the 2025 Tracer 9 Series seems to have evolved to be easier to handle.

What is the newly adopted “Adaptive Matrix LED Headlight Technology”?
The "Adaptive Matrix LED Headlight Technology" uses a camera at the bottom of the screen to detect what is ahead. It automatically adjusts the direction and light intensity of the headlights according to traffic conditions.
What is interesting is the world's most advanced motorcycle headlight system, the "Adaptive Matrix LED Headlight Technology," which will be adopted in the TRACER 9GT and TRACER 9GT+. The headlight part is equipped with a camera that automatically detects surrounding traffic, natural light sources, and weather conditions. By dynamically adjusting the brightness and light distribution of multiple low and high beam LED light sources, it always provides optimal lighting. What's amazing is that the camera detects oncoming vehicles, etc., and adjusts the lighting area while dispersing the light so as not to cause dazzle.
Of course, the conventional cornering lights are installed in all series, and when a lean angle of 7 degrees or more is detected, they automatically illuminate the inside of the corner.
The TRACER 9GT+ is also newly equipped with a millimeter wave radar at the rear. It has a blind spot detection function.
The TRACER 9GT+, the top-of-the-line model with ACC function, is also equipped with a millimeter wave radar at the rear in addition to the front, and a blind spot detection function has been added. This function uses a rear millimeter wave radar to detect following vehicles, and if there is a vehicle in the motorcycle's "blind spot", an indicator built into the rearview mirror flashes to notify the rider. This function is already used on DUCATI, KAWASAKI, and TRIUMPH models, but this is the first time it has been adopted by YAMAHA.
The indicator in the mirror flashes to let you know there is a vehicle in your blind spot.
The engine remains the same, but the Y-AMT specification has been added.
The Y-AMT specification, in which shift changes are electronically controlled, does not have a clutch lever.
Looking at the main specifications of maximum power and maximum torque, the 890cc in-line 3-cylinder engine has not changed from the previous model, but what is of interest is the Y-AMT electronically controlled shift mechanism installed on the Tracer 9 Y-AMT and Tracer 9GT+.
Without the need for clutch lever or shift change pedal operation, fully automatic shifting is possible, as well as manual shifting using the seesaw button on the left switch box, making this the third model to adopt this function after the MT-09 series and MT-07 series.
The Y-AMT specification, which electronically controls the shift change operation, does not have a shift pedal.
As for the modes, like the MT-09 Y-AMT, which shares the same base, there is a manual MT mode and an automatic AT mode for electronically controlled shifting. The AT mode also has two modes, "D" and "D+". However, since it is a field of sports touring where more comfort and fatigue reduction are required, it can be said that it is natural to install it on the Tracer 9GT +.
By the way, regarding the feeling of each mode, "D" mode is "ideal for commuting and traveling where the rider wants to enjoy a more relaxed ride, providing a softer, confidence-boosting fully automated gear shift, useful for low-speed and urban driving". "D+" mode "holds each gear longer and enhances engine braking as needed to provide stronger acceleration and a more exhilarating riding experience". In the case of the Tracer 9GT +, which is equipped with a millimeter wave radar, the coordination between the adaptive cruise control (ACC) and radar-linked UBS and the Y-AMT is also of great interest.

The entire series is equipped with a smart key, which allows keyless operation of the ignition, fuel filler cap, and steering lock.
A newly designed switch box is used. The right switch box has an ACC distance setting button.
The chain of the top-of-the-line Tracer 9GT+ model has a DLC coating on the rollers to increase wear resistance. This is a design to extend the maintenance cycle for touring motorcycles.
The entire series features a 7-inch full-color TFT dashboard.
