Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. will release the new "MT-09 Y-AMT" in Japan, which is the first to adopt the new mechanism "Y-AMT" that was recently announced overseas. The price is $9336.36, $752.93 more than the standard model, but $527.05 cheaper than the high-end SP model. It will be released on Monday, September 30, 2024.
No clutch lever or pedal required! New column shift mechanism "Y-AMT"
The Y-AMT (YAMAHA AUTOMATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION), which Yamaha Europe recently announced, is a new mechanism that allows you to change gears without using a clutch. It does not have a shift pedal, and in addition to being able to operate it manually by shifting gears with a seesaw switch at hand, it can also be switched to automatic. At the time of its announcement, it was announced that it would be installed on the "Crossplane Engine," and the first machine chosen to be equipped with it was the streetfighter "MT-09."
The style is almost the same as the standard, but the clutch lever and shift pedal have been omitted, and instead, a shift switch has been added to the left handlebar and a MT/AT switch has been added to the right handlebar. It is easy to distinguish it from the standard by its appearance. The engine power and electronic control remain the same, with the cross-plane 846cc water-cooled parallel 3-cylinder engine producing 120PS/10,000rpm. It is equipped with electronic controls such as a 6-axis IMU, cruise control, and back slip regulator (BSR), and information can be shared via a 5-inch full-color TFT LCD monitor and the smartphone app "Y-connect". These functions and appearances are under the latest 2024 model.
The weight of the vehicle has changed due to the installation of the Y-AMT. The MT-09 Y-AMT weighs 196kg, 3kg more than the standard 193kg. In addition, a smart key that was only available on the "MT-09 SP" is also included as a piece of additional equipment. It has not been announced whether the SP specification will be added in the future.
The price is set at 36.36, 77,000 yen cheaper than the SP! Will it be a worthy rival to Honda's "E-Clutch"?
The first new clutch mechanism to be released is the "E-Clutch" already on sale by Honda. It is installed on the CB650R and CBR650R, and they share the same feature of being able to change gears without releasing the clutch lever, but the E-Clutch still has a lever and the shift pedal is still moved, as before, and there is no automatic mode. The price of the E-Clutch is 55,000 yen more than the standard model.
The newly announced MT-09 Y-AMT is priced at $9336.36! That's $752.93 more than the standard $8583.43. The MT-09 SP is priced at $9863.41, which is $527.05 cheaper than the standard. The Y-AMT is more multifunctional than the E-Clutch, but it's a nice point that it's more affordable than the SP. It has already been announced that there will be multiple models equipped with the Y-AMT, so we're looking forward to new models following the MT-09.
The MT-09 Y-AMT comes in two colors: blue and black. The graphics are almost the same as the standard. The cyan color used in the standard version is not included in the lineup.
It will go on sale on Monday, September 30, 2024! Orders will be accepted at YSP stores nationwide. The planned annual sales volume is 300 units.
