BMW unveiled its ConnectedRide Smartglasses at BMW Motorrad Days in Berlin on July 7.
This year, SHOEI made headlines with its smart helmet, and now the company has attached a heads-up display to its sunglasses.
Sunglasses can be used with any helmet
Connected Ride Smart Glasses are devices that use a heads-up display (HUD) to project information such as navigation, speed, and gear position directly onto the lenses of the sunglasses. This is expected to have the effect of allowing the rider to concentrate on riding, as the necessary information is available in the rider's field of vision without having to shift the rider's gaze to the cockpit of the motorcycle.
The smart glasses connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth and an app and can operate for up to 10 hours thanks to a lithium-ion battery. The position and settings of the display can be adjusted before the ride as well as during the ride via a multi-controller on the vehicle's handlebars.
Two sets of lenses are available, one 85% clear and one colored, with ultraviolet (UVA/UVB) protection, and they are also available with degrees for nearsightedness and farsightedness.
They are also available in two sizes (M/L) with different nose pads. The price was announced as €690 (approx. 722 USD) in Europe, but the availability in Japan has not been announced at this time.
