Motorcycle Tips「DIY」Relocated the Helmet Lock in the Middle of the XSR700 Seat Rail at a Reasonable Price.

The silhouette of the rear area, which is common in recent sports models, is sleek and clean. With the generalization of smaller fenders and nanosuspensions, many designs have been simplified to the point where one might be tempted to say that all that is left is the seat and wheels. This style is symbolic of cutting-edge models, as it also means mass centralization and weight reduction in terms of performance.

However, most bikes have a helmet lock in the middle of the bike. This is very conspicuous when you look at it closely.
I understand the manufacturer's decision that this is the best location for ease of use and space to hang a helmet.
I understand it very much. But in fact, what stands out stands out. It is a small part, but the hook and key cylinder sticking out of the flowing silhouette to the tail are very attractive to those who care about it.

The helmet lock of Yamaha's heritage model XSR700 is also located right in the middle of the seat rail.
Nobu, who has registered his XSR700 in the Webike community, wanted to move it to a less conspicuous location.
So, Nobu chose the MOTO HACK parts for this project. The helmet lock stay of the same Yamaha YZF-R7 can be used without any modification. For XSR700 riders, this is a perfect little customization to create a different style!

Helmet lock stay for YZF-R7

I had removed the helmet lock at the same time as removing the tandem step, but it was still inconvenient without it.
However, the XSR700 stock helmet lock was too strong when the tandem step was removed, and I was wondering if there was anything I could do about it.

I was informed by an MT-07 rider that the YZF-R7 stay can be used upside down, so I installed it this time.
XSR700 has a separate rear frame, and I was worried that the joint might interfere with the frame. I was worried that the joint might interfere with the rear frame, but it was possible to install it without any modification.

It was a good decision to go with the short exhaust system. The helmet is just barely in contact with the exhaust system.

It is a little inconvenient that it is hard to insert the key.

From the Editors.

The helmet lock is originally located on the left side of the body, but by using a stay from the YZF-R7, we were able to relocate it to a less conspicuous position on the right side, closer to the side cover! It looks very comfortable in the photo, and even though it is made by the same Yamaha, it is amazing that it can be used without any modification!
And the parts are very inexpensive!

However, the lock has been moved to the right side, and interference with the exhaust system has become a point of concern.
Nobu has already converted to a short exhaust system, so this does not seem to be a problem, but if the relocation is done with the stock look, there is a possibility that the helmet may hit the exhaust system.
If you decide to try it yourself, please pay attention to the position of the exhaust system.

Check the location of the factory helmet lock for reference. Although the position avoids interference with the exhaust system, it is a concern in the flowing rear area design.

Thank you for your valuable ideas, "Nobu-San" who introduced the "Helmet Lock Stay Diversion for YZF-R7"
