Motorcycle Tips「DIY」To Raise the Fins on the Radiator Core, a Very Cheap Device is Perfect!

DIY-1.jpg How to

Maybe I should wash my car once in a while?!

What a moment to clean up my favorite motorcycle that I pulled out for the first time in a long time.
However, when I was polishing the area around the front wheel, I suddenly noticed the bumpy radiator core when I looked up. Although I try to wake up with my fingertips, the worst development is that the thin fins rather become irreversible the more I do it.

What am I going to do?

Everyone has encountered this kind of tragedy at least once. To begin with, a radiator core is a part that cools the cooling water by exposing it to the air. To further cool the thin line, it has wavy fins, but these fins are very fragile.
The fins are very fragile. When hard objects such as bees or flying rocks fly at them, the fins bend at once. On a gravel road, the fins are bent at every turn, and air can no longer pass through them. When air can no longer pass through the fins, cooling performance naturally drops dramatically.

To prevent this from happening, off-road models are equipped with a radiator guard, a guard that repels even a few stones. This is also a standard custom part for on-road models.

OK, I get it, I'll buy that radiator guard next time, but what should I do about the squishy fins already?

Yes, radiator guards are only for prevention. Regarding the fins that have already been crushed, the manufacturer has stated that the radiator core should be replaced as a consumable part and that bent or mud-clogged fins should be replaced. However, this is not the case with discontinued motorcycles, which are also very expensive parts.

But don't worry.
There is a tool in the world that can fix radiator fins by hand. As you can see, it looks like a pair of pliers with a very thin and flat tip, but it is indeed a special tool. With this tool, you can fix the fins in no time at all!

However, it's not like we clean the radiator core every day, and it's a little bit expensive, usually thought Futsū ni Kei-sande (introduced in this issue of MOTO HACK). Yes, in fact, specialized tools are indeed the best tools, but they are not easy to afford unless you are a professional. So, Futsū ni Kei found a perfect tool that can be procured for as little as 500 yen. It is not a special part, so it is cheap and easy to work with.

This will allow you to easily check the radiator core of your motorcycle.

I received your comment on my last diary, and I see that you have such a tool. I immediately searched for it.

I am very grateful for the privilege of writing a diary and receiving comments, as I am ignorant and my knowledge is expanding.

It is called Metapen. The price is about 3,000 yen. Hmmm, a bit expensive. It says in the comments that it is better than two screwdrivers, though.

I was wondering if 3,000 yen was too much since it is not something I do often when I suddenly remembered something I used to use when I collected stamps in elementary school.

I checked Yahoo!

Tweezers for stamps. They are used to prevent fingerprints from sticking to stamps. The surface to be pinched is smooth to prevent scratches when pinched.

The fins aren't straight because they don't have enough rigidity, but they're 500 yen.

I am satisfied with the cost performance.

The work time is a little bit faster now.

Lately, the forecast is sunny on work days and rainy on holidays.

It looks like it will rain again tomorrow.

I guess I'll wake up again.

Thank you for your valuable ideas, "Futsū ni Kei-sande" who introduced the "Radiator fin grading, continued".
