With its simple and stylish form and easy-to-use, straightforward maneuverability, the Rebel series is a hit model supported by a wide range of riders, from youngsters to experienced veterans. The Rebel series, however, is rumored to be developing a scrambler that uses the Rebel's platform. According to our information, there will be two types of scramblers based on the Revul CL. First, let's take a look at one of them, the CL250!

50th Anniversary of the first CL, reviving the origins of the Honda Off.

A sibling model to the best-selling Rebel 250 is likely to debut in 2021. Its name is the CL250. It will be a model that carries on the tradition of the CL72 scrambler launched in 1962 in Japan and abroad. The CL72 was Honda's memorable first off-road model, created at a time when there were no dedicated off-road vehicles in existence. Its displacement was 250 cc, the same as the Rebel, and it was based on the CB72 sports model.

Fifty years after the first model, the CL250, which is expected to debut in the fall of 2022, is another off-road vehicle based on an on-road model. This type of vehicle is called a scrambler, but the important feature is the exhaust up position. Add to this fork boots and large-diameter wheels, and the bike is transformed into a complete scrambler style.

Block tires and spoke wheels would make it more serious, but since it is based on the Rebel 250, I expect the CL250 to be an entry-level model and have tried to equip it with on-road equipment in CG.

HONDA CL72 SCRAMBLER based on the CB72, Honda's first off-road vehicle was the CL72. It is said that the CL was named after the C and L from SCRAMBLER. The displacement was 250cc.

HONDA REBEL250 debuted in 2017 and has been a best-selling model for four consecutive years since 2018. It has a high support rate among women due to its unique steal and excellent foot grounding.

If the Rebel based, is it natural to have the 500

Like the base machine, the Rebel, the CL is also rumored to have an older brother, the 500, as a global model. Like the Rebel, this global model is equipped with a 2-cylinder DOHC engine. This stylish scrambler is also highly anticipated for its performance!

The Rebel 250, which debuted in 2017, used a unique mechanism in its body. It was groundbreaking in that the same frame could be equipped with a single-cylinder 250cc engine and a parallel two-cylinder 500cc engine, making it possible to develop two models with different displacements in a common body.

If the CL250 is also based on the Rebel's frame, a similar CL500 would be available for larger licenses. This one would use a two-cylinder engine, which would be more stylish if it were equipped with a two-piece muffler on each side in the same style as in the 1960s.

The CL500 is likely to be launched later than the CL250, expected in early 2023. Of course, a Japan launch is also highly likely.

HONDA CL500 Estimated arrival date: Autumn 2023 (CG illustration created by editorial department) Like the Rebel, the CL250 and CL500 are expected to have the same style, but the CL500 will have a two-pipe exhaust system, following the past first-generation CL250. Pretty cool!

Do CL250 and CL500 share the same frame?

Here is a patent drawing filed by Honda, showing a 500cc engine mounted on a Rebel-based frame. The exhaust system (57) is clearly an up-type, and this is reproduced in the CG of the CL250.

Also, from the side silhouette, we can guess that the front wheels will be 18-19 inches and the rear about 17-18 inches in classic style. The main frame shape is similar in structure to that of the Rebel, so they will share the same chassis with the 250cc. From these drawings, it can be seen that the CL250/CL500 will be a mid-size and large series that will share the same body and exterior as the Rebel 250/500.

The patent is for the rear brake arrangement. It was filed in 2018, indicating that the CL was planned from the beginning of the launch of Rebel.
