No.5 Yamaha MT-07

Webike Motorcycle Selection Listed Price: 3,467 USD - 6,698 USD

The revolutionary child of the middle class has maintained its strong popularity. The overwhelming lightness of the motorcycle's body also brings out the performance of the engine, and it achieves a light and exhilarating driving performance. It also reduced the price of the vehicle, and it did not require much management cost in terms of fuel consumption, etc., and so on. This strategy is still alive and well, and fun models such as the Ténéré 700 and YZF-R7, which share this engine and frame, have been introduced one after another.

MT-07 specifications and related information

Engine displacement 688cc
Maximum output 73ps/8,750 rpm
Overall Length x Overall Height x Overall Width 2,085mm x 1,105mm x 780mm

About 60% of riders in the 166-170cm height range said that the MT-07's footing "floats on the heel.

No.4 Yamaha XSR900

1622726234393L.jpg
Webike Motorcycle Selection Listed Price: 5,896 USD - 12,596 USD

This model is at the top end of Yamaha's neo-classical strategy. Although the base model is the MT-09, Yamaha has succeeded in giving it an orthodox naked feel by giving it a round-eyed headlight and other special exterior features. In a sense, this style is a traditional one that is engraved in the DNA of Japanese people, so it should be able to be ridden for a long time without getting tired of it.

XSR900 specifications and related information

Engine displacement 845cc
Maximum output 116 ps/10,000rpm
Overall Length x Overall Height x Overall Width 2,075mm x 1,140mm x 815mm

About 50% of riders in the 166-170cm height range said that the XSR900 foot grounding "floats on its heels".

No.3 Yamaha MT-09

Webike Motorcycle Selection Listed Price: 4,634 USD - 10,231 USD

The MT-09 redefined what it means to be a "sport naked." The 09 pursued a lightness that large nakeds had in a sense given up on. By combining a torquey and high-power 3-cylinder engine with this lightness, it succeeded in giving the rider enough stamina to go beyond sport riding to stunt riding. In high power mode, it is no longer in the realm of a rodeo.

MT-09 specifications and related information

Engine displacement 888cc
Maximum output 120ps/10,000rpm
Overall Length x Overall Height x Overall Width 2,090mm x 1,190mm x 795mm

About 60% of riders in the 166-170cm height range said that the MT-09's foot grounding "floats on its heel".

No.2 Yamaha Serow 250

1627296157881L.jpg
Webike Motorcycle Selection Listed Price: 2,639 USD - 7,803 USD

A model that is sadly no longer in production. A gentle match for every rider, the Serow 250 teaches the joys of off-roading and the healing power of travel. The Serow is not fast. You will fall in love with it after 10 km. You will want to keep it by your side for the rest of your life.

Serow 250 specs and related information

Engine displacement 249c
Maximum output 20ps/7,500 rpm
Overall Length x Overall Height x Overall Width 2,100mm x 1,160mm x 805mm

Approximately 60% of riders in the 166-170 cm height range reported that the Serow 250 foot grounding "floats on its heels".

No.1 Yamaha YZF-R1

1646109505224L.jpg
Webike Motorcycle Selection Listed Price: 3,294 USD - 19,508 USD

The R1 has been competing in WSBK for 7 years now and won the 2021 season. I think this result shows what R1 is all about. Motorcycle racing is very much influenced by human sensibilities. The moment you get scared, you have 2 choices: back off or fall over. The winner is the one who can keep the gas pedal open. The R1 won the race because it moves just like the human senses.

YZF-R1 Specifications and related information

Engine displacement 997cc
Maximum output 200ps/13,500 rpm
Overall Length x Overall Height x Overall Width 2,055mm x 1,165mm x 690mm

R1.jpg
Approximately 40% of riders in the 166-170 cm height range reported that the YZF-R1 has a "toe-up" foot grounding.

Summary

Yamaha models in FY21 resulted in a high level of satisfaction with large models. I think the reason for this is that the large models were made to be as close to mid-size models as possible. Whether it is the lightness of the body or the price, Yamaha has been betting on developing motorcycles that are accessible to as many people as possible without compromising power, starting with the MT-07. Currently, the trend in motorcycles is toward smaller displacement motorcycles. I am very much looking forward to seeing what kind of strategy Yamaha will come up with there. Hopefully, by all means, bring back the Serow and introduce a small-displacement motorcycle for ASEAN in Japan!
