Side bags were originally positioned as supplementary bags for long touring and camping trips. In addition to the main seat bag with a capacity of 45-70 liters, side bags with a capacity of 8-20 liters on each side (once called "dividing bags") were commonly used.
For camping touring in particular, storing heavy items such as tents and cooking equipment lower than the seat prevented the motorcycle's center of gravity from being raised, which was a major advantage for driving.
