▲ CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP (Grand Prix Red)
HONDA launches the big super sport model called the "CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE" and "CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP", which have undergone a full model change, including a newly designed liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC in-line 4-cylinder 999cc engine.
The CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE inherits the theme of "Total Control - the evolution of fun to manipulate", a theme that has been pursued consistently from the first model "CBR900RR" released in 1992, and furthermore, the "Total Control for the Track - a machine that demonstrates its abilities in the circuit" has been defined as a development concept in order to fully demonstrate its advanced performance in circuit riding and racing. This is the high-end model of the CBR series, combining a power unit of high output and output characteristics superior in controllability with vehicle packaging seeking controllability, and adopting advanced electronic control technologies to support sports riding.

The CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP is based on the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE equipped with ÖHLINS electronically controlled suspension, and a BREMBO front brake calipers. In addition, the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP has special specs that incorporate the enjoyment of sports riding such as using a lithium-ion battery that contributes to weight reduction, and a quick shifter that enables quicker shift change operations are equipped as standard.

Main features
■ Power unit of output characteristics with high output and superior controllability based on the feedback received from the RC213V technology
The CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE is equipped with a newly designed liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC 4-valve in-line 4-cylinder 999cc engine. This is the same cylinder bore x stroke as the HONDA's RC213V racing machine exhibiting high performance in a race and achieving short stroke reduction aiming to adopt a large diameter valve and reduce friction. In addition to the thorough weight reduction of respective parts such as a high strength aluminum forged piston and titanium connecting rods, surface treatment with DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating excellent in low friction resistance and contributing to high rotation is applied to a finger-follower rocker arms and camshaft.
The camshaft drive mechanism uses a semi-camshaft gear train system capable of shortening the camshaft chain length and contributing to weight reduction and high rotation. As for the intake engine displacement, an intake passage from the opening of the ram air duct system provided at the tip of the upper cowl to the intake port, and the cross-sectional shape from the exhaust port to the exhaust pipe opening is changed smoothly to improve intake and exhaust efficiency.
Moreover, the titanium exhaust system that contributes to weight reduction and mass centralization has been jointly developed with AKRAPOVIĆ, a company with an abundant track record in the race.
■ Motorcycle packaging in pursuit of maneuverability at the circuit
A lightweight aluminum diamond frame is newly designed using a thin GDC (gravity die casting) method capable of high-precision rigidity tuning. The rear suspension is a PROLINK, and the upper is fastened to the rear part of the engine block, thereby contributing to the optimization and the weight reduction of frame rigidity. The aluminum press swingarm is designed to be 30.5mm longer than the previous model, and the weight equivalent to the previous model while optimizing the rigidity balance is obtained, whereby the grounding of the rear tire and the excellent turning performance are pursued.
In addition, the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP is equipped with OHLINS electronic control suspension and BREMBO front brake caliper*1 that controls damping force according to riding conditions and provides optimal characteristics.
*1 The BREMBO rear brake caliper is for both the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE and CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP.
■ Cowling and winglets in pursuit of aerodynamic
The height of the upper surface of the fuel tank shelter is set at a position of 45mm lower than the previous model to contribute to the reduction of the total projection area where the rider lies on the vehicle, and the riding resistance is reduced by a seat cowl having a shape in which air flowed smoothly from the rear to the rider's back. Furthermore, by installing a winglets on the cowl side for generating aerodynamic force in the direction of pressing the motorcycle against the road surface at high-speed, the cowl contributes to suppressing front tire lifting (wheelie) during acceleration and stabilizing the motorcycle posture during deceleration.
■ Various electronic control functions to support sports riding
The motorcycle posture control system adopts BOSCH six-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). For the previous model, the estimation accuracy of the motorcycle posture has been further improved. The riding mode is installable with the TBW (Throttle-By-Wire System) that controls the throttle valve opening, Power / HONDA Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) *2 / Selectable Engine Brake / Wheelie Behavior Mitigation Control, and with the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP each control level including the electronic control suspension can be switched at once, making it possible to select a mode that matches its riding style.
In addition, SHOWA's rod-type electronically-controlled steering damper has been newly added to reduce weight while providing quick response to steering operation and anti-kickback performance. Furthermore, considering the use of ABS *3 mode switching system and circuit use according to rider's convenience as the new function, and a start mode control that allows the riders to focus on clutch operation when restarting is adopted. Also, a quick shifter that allows quicker shift change operation is standard equipment for the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP.
*2 HONDA Selectable Torque Control is not a system to eliminate slippage. HONDA Selectable Torque Control is a system to assist the rider's accelerator operation. Therefore, this cannot respond to unreasonable operation as with motorcycle without the HONDA Selectable Torque Control.
*3 ABS is a system to assist the rider's brake operation. As for motorcycle without ABS, sufficient deceleration is required in front cornering, and it is not possible to cope with the unreasonable operation. When the ABS is actuated, the system operation is activated by the kickback (swing back).
■ Coloring full of racing look
The motorcycle color is a tricolor "Grand Prix Red" full of racing look. The CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE has a color variation that includes a "Matte Pearl Morion Black" that accentuates the proportions as a super sports model in addition to the Grand Prix Red.

■ Numerical values for type designation application by the Road Transport Vehicle Act (Items marked with ★ are HONDA's published specifications)
*4 The fuel consumption rate is based on the specified test conditions. It depends on various conditions such as usage environment (weather, traffic congestion, etc.), riding method, vehicle condition (equipment, specifications), and maintenance conditions.
*5 The constant fuel consumption value is the actual fuel consumption rate of traveling at a constant speed.
*6 The WMTC mode value is a calculated value based on the exhaust gas test results measured in a travel mode that is an international standard, including starting, accelerating, and stopping. The travel mode classes are classified according to engine displacement and maximum speed.
