Brembo has been the leading supplier of braking systems for many years and has now established an unassailable position with a 100% share of the MotoGP market. However, this time we are not talking about aftermarket Brembo products, but rather the OEM products they produce that everyone loves. The JOG ZR calipers were discontinued long ago, and production of the 100mm pitch Brembo calipers that were installed on many machines also ended before we knew it. However, not all is lost. This time, we would like to introduce a new face in the world of stock replacement parts!

The Current Standard: SUZUKI & Brembo Radial Mount Caliper

Brembo monoblock calipers have been used on various models since the SUZUKI GSX-R600 (L1) debuted in 2011. The coloring has varied from silver when they first appeared to gold around the time the GSX-R1000 (L2) came out, and red as an optional accessory for the current GSX-S series. Over the years they have been used on SUZUKI's big bikes and as stock accessories. The combination of SUZUKI and Brembo has all but become the norm and now there is a new introduction to the lineup called the Stylema® caliper!

Stock Stylema® caliper for 3rd generation HAYABUSA

The third generation HAYABUSA, introduced in 2021, uses Brembo Stylema® calipers! Since this caliper has a 108mm pitch, which is not included in Brembo's aftermarket lineup, it is a great caliper to be used on various Japanese bikes. This version was developed exclusively for the HAYABUSA, making it the world's first machine equipped with a 108mm version. The design is more compact and lighter than ever, and its outstanding ventilation ensures overwhelming strength against hard braking. The piston diameter has been reduced to 30mm (previously 32mm), so please be careful when selecting a master cylinder.

Type: Monoblock
Mounting pitch: 108mm
Piston diameter: 30mm (4-pot, same diameter)

The Current Standard: YAMAHA & Brembo Radial Master Cylinder

All YAMAHA big bikes, both axial mount and radial mount, are now equipped with SUMITOMO MOS calipers, and Brembo calipers are no more. However! Their brake master cylinders are still around! Up until now, semi-radial cylinders for the YZF-R1 were the standard for stock use, but now a fully radial master cylinder is also available!

YZF-R7 Stock Radial Master Cylinder

This is the first Brembo fully radial master cylinder to be used on a YAMAHA production model. The silver lever is used on the standard model, and the black lever is used on the WGP 60th model. The version for the XSR900 released in June 2022 is also equipped with a smoked tank! Moreover, this master cylinder has an interesting shape where the banjo is perpendicular to the lever. For those who are used to aftermarket master cylinders you may be surprised, but with a little effort, the stock hose can be used. It's practically asking you to install it on your bike!

Type: Radial
Piston diameter: 16mm
Banjo bolt pitch: 1.25mm

So that means...!

The MOS caliper used on the YZF-R7 is a 4-pot with piston diameters of 30.2mm and 27mm, while the Stylema® caliper is a 4-pot with all pistons 30mm in diameter, so it will require a little more stroke, but you can definitely use it with ease. With this, you can renew your front brake system for less than 100,000 JPY! If you have already installed this set or are planning to do so, please give us a review to let us know your thoughts!
