PMC x GILD design “Monocoque Swingarm”: Aluminum swingarm for the air-cooled Z, collaboration between two long-established parts manufacturers

PMC x GILD design "Monocoque Swingarm"

PMC is a brand that sells a wide range of custom and replacement parts for '70s and '80s motorcycles with a focus on the Z, and GILD design has been known for developing and manufacturing parts since the customization boom of the '90s. Now, these two companies have collaborated to produce the "Monocoque Swingarm PMC x GILD design" for the air-cooled Z.

The main pipe is made of high-strength aluminum 7N01 with a 35 x 70mm reinforced cross section, achieving both high rigidity and light weight. The end block (chain adjuster) is made of A5083 material, and the user can select the suspension mount position from 465mm (the same as stock), as well as 485mm, 495mm, or 515mm, to suit the bike's rear suspension and suspension tuning. The position can be chosen at the time of order. In addition, the suspension mount is offset 10mm to accommodate tires up to 170mm wide, and the chain alignment is sufficiently secured. With this swingarm a new option for Z customization has been born.

The pipe section is made of 7N01 material with a reinforced cross section, known for its high strength. The body is polished and the end blocks are silver anodized.

The suspension mount is pre-offset by 10mm, with its position selectable from four patterns at the time of purchase. A collar for positioning the upper side mount is also included. The axle shafts supplied are a Φ20mm hollow type.

The pivot section combines needle and ball bearings to support both radial and thrust directions for smooth operation.

The front section, which is a monocoque structure, also has an oil catch tank and an adapter union that allows the use of EARL's-6AN hoses. The welding beads in various places are also beautiful.
