You can still enjoy the Ninja engine!
The Kawasaki GPZ900R, the original Ninja, made its debut in 1984, and today almost 40 years have passed since its launch. The Final Edition was introduced in 2003, meaning 20 years have passed since then as well. Since it was such a popular long-selling model, there are still many opportunities to see them being ridden around town and recently, the movie "Top Gun: Maverick" has helped rekindle its popularity. There are many riders who are interested in riding one for the first time, as well as those who used to ride and want to get their hands on one again.
Incidentally, the engine installed on the GPZ900R has been used in many motorcycles since, with different displacements and specifications, including the ZX-10, ZZR1100 and ZZR1200, the fastest flagships of each era, as well as the ZRX series from 1100 to 1200 DAEG. Even the DAEG is more than 10 years old if we're talking about the original model. This was Kawasaki's first side-cam chain engine. It is compact, which translates directly into easy handling, capable of handling high power, and has a reputation for ease of tuning, which are probably the secrets to its long-lasting popularity.
How to keep your bike in good shape without worrying about aging!
One of the common problems of models equipped with Ninja engines is the deterioration of the water pipe due to rust. You may notice that the coolant is red when you change it. This symptom is often seen in motorcycles that have not been ridden for a long time. The title image for this article shows a GPZ900R water pipe cut to show the inside after this red coolant was removed. Since you don't often get a look at the inside, it was a surprise to see that even the inside of the rubber pipe has turned red. The water pipes for all models from the GPZ900R to the ZRX1200 DAEG are made of steel, so they may be more rusted than you expect.
Of course, coolant has a rust-preventive effect, but an engine that repeatedly warms up and cools down is prone to condensation depending on the temperature, and little by little water and air get mixed in. If rust develops in the water pipe, the radiator fluid will become dirty and the cooling efficiency will drop. In the worst case, a hole may form, causing coolant leakage. K-FACTORY's titanium water pipe can be used to avoid such problems. Available in both heat-colored and uncolored versions, this titanium water pipe can of course be used as a customization for looks, but the main advantage is that it will never rust. Actually, it was developed with the purpose in mind of helping riders enjoy their Ninja engines for a long time. When you plan to replace your coolant, you can replace the whole pipe to free yourself from rust.
All models with Ninja series engines are now rare and precious and their value will continue to increase in the future. We hope that you can eliminate your concerns one by one and enjoy a trouble-free motorcycle life.
Reduce water damage by replacing with rust-free titanium material!
Though the stock water pipe for the GPZ900R is no longer available, you can still find them for the ZRX series, but if you are going to replace it anyway, we recommend a rust-free titanium pipe. A kit that can be used when converting to a ZRX-type engine on a GPZ900R chassis will also be included in the lineup.
For GPZ900R
78,980 JPY
Each part is also sold separately.
O-rings, 1 bolt, and 1 copper washer are included.
For ZRX1200 (~'09)
78,980 JPY
Each part is also sold separately.
O-rings, 1 bolt, and 1 copper washer are included.
Cylinder head output is different from that for the ZRX1200 DAEG.
The only common part with the ZRX1100 is the pump cylinder, so this set cannot be installed.
For ZRX1200 DAEG
78,980 JPY
Each part is also sold separately.
Cylinder head output differs from that for the ZRX1200.
*O-rings (large: 2 / small: 6), 1 bolt, and 1 copper washer are included.
All parts can be purchased separately. From the top in the photo, Cylinder Head Output (24,750 JPY), Cylinder Inlet (20,350 JPY), Cylinder Pump Inlet (13,200 JPY), Pump Cylinder (21,450 JPY). In addition, an optional titanium pipe for the hose between the pump inlet and radiator is also available.
Reduce noise around cam chain of GPZ900R to ZRX1200 series engines!
Cam Chain Tensioner (7,150 JPY)
The normal self-adjusting type cannot hold the cam chain with the proper force as the spring tension drops, and this can cause abnormal noise. By replacing it with a manual type, it is possible to adjust the tension to match the bike.
Titanium Push Rod (5,500 JPY) / Chromoly Push Rod (3,080 JPY)
This part interrupts the clutch from the clutch release through the shaft of the transmission. The stock part has already been discontinued. The heat colored rod in the first photo is made of titanium, and the second one is made of chromoly. When using the titanium part, it is recommended to replace the bearing on the clutch spring plate side and the holder where the push rod is attached to the clutch spring plate at the same time.
Deterioration of rubber parts is also surprisingly stressful, so be proactive in replacing them!
Universal Tank Damper Attachment Kit for GPZ900R (1,320 JPY)
Rubber parts often crack or get worn down due to deterioration. For this reason, it seems that a surprisingly large number of GPZ900Rs have lost the rubber part used to secure the tank. Can also be used on any model with a similar attachment system.
Universal Rubber Nut (M5 x 14.2mm / P=0.8)
For GPZ900R
880 JPY (4 pieces) / 1,540 JPY (8 pieces)
The φ14.2mm is a universal type that can be used for windshields and is compatible with Kawasaki's stock part number 92015-1757. The φ17mm type is also available, and can be used to attach cowling and other parts for the ZX-10R and ZX-14R.
Seat Lock Cylinder
For GPZ900R, ZEPHYR750 (3,300 JPY)
This is an internal part of the key cylinder for removing the seat, which cannot be purchased separately as a stock part. If it gets worn or cracked, the seat cannot be removed. K-FACTORY's is machined from duracon.
