Fully Embracing the Charm of the Original! The New “NR Seat” for the Dax 125 (G-Craft Blog)

 6 min read

We’ve just launched a new seat for the Dax 125. Unlike the existing SC seat and stepped seat, this one is called the “NR Seat.” While the SC seat focused on being "Slim" and "Comfortable", this new seat follows a Neo-retro concept.

Inspired by the Dax of the 50cc Era

The design is modeled after the Dax seat from when it was still a 50cc bike. At that time, leisure bikes were at their peak, and a number of iconic models with unique mechanisms were on the market. The Dax seats of that era were particularly charming, often featuring tuck 'n roll stitching with rivets.

■The photo below shows the Dax Honda ST50 Export released in 1969, which featured a thick, riveted seat.

■Next is the Honda Dax reissued in 1995. This seat is plain and doesn’t have tuck 'n roll stitching.

■And finally, the current Dax 125. Its seat is similar in shape to the 1995 model.

We started by designing the side profile based on the original Dax seats. Three key points guided the design:

Tuck 'n roll stitching – evokes the 50cc Dax charm
Rivets – add a touch of luxury and nostalgia
Ride comfort – ensures the seat is enjoyable to sit on

■Here’s the initial sketch incorporating these points.

■From the front, the shape looks like this.

To balance the tuck 'n roll design with ride comfort, we deliberately added extra padding to the center of the seat. This is important: while it slightly reduces ground reach for the rider, the seat fits snugly when you sit on it. As with the SC seat development, shaping the inner-thigh area improves ease of use.

The finished seat turned out like this. We feel it faithfully reproduce the original concept.

When mounted on the bike, the NR seat achieves both charm and sophistication.

■The rounded, plump surface

Tuck 'n roll stitching on the top makes it less slippery. A pillion strap adds visual interest to the otherwise long, uniform seat (and can be removed with a screwdriver)

■The G-Craft logo is embossed at the rear of the seat.

■Here’s how it looks when seated: Stock seat – ground reach

■NR seat – ground reach

By optimizing the silhouette, the NR seat ends up about 2 cm taller than stock, so ground reach is slightly reduced. However, its shape fits the rider’s body, making it a comfortable seat. For an even better riding position, slightly tilting the handlebars forward is recommended.

Finally, the Dax seats currently on sale.

This nostalgic stepped seat is shaped to give a classic look. The seat height is 3 cm lower, improving ground reach.

The SC series emphasizes Slim and Comfortable. Shaping the inner-thigh area improves ground reach, while the flat top allows flexible seating positions. The tuck 'n roll top provides grip and comfort.

Both seats are easy to swap with just two bolts, but appearance and functionality are equally important. Consider your riding style, aesthetics, and overall balance when choosing the perfect seat for you.
