MELLOWS' ZEPHYR750

The owner of the ZEPHYR750 had installed an FCR carburetor at another custom shop and was on his first touring trip, the bike suddenly stopped running. A fellow rider on the trip contacted Custom Shop Mellows, and they sent an employee to assist. After inspection, he discovered that the front and rear suspension, wheels, and brakes had all been customized. He also found that the steering stem had a short offset type, but the stem nut was loose enough to be turned by hand. Upon further inspection, they realized that the parts were good but had been installed improperly. They had to remove all the installed parts and reinstall them correctly, starting with the basic task of loosening and tightening the bolts. By properly reinstalling each part, the bike was able to function as intended, greatly improving the riding experience.

Not only in this case, but in all cases, custom parts are only effective when they are installed correctly and set up properly. This experience served as a reminder of this basic fact. Since then the owner has requested further customization, such as shortening the carburetor spigots to enjoy high RPMs. An exterior set from the Doremi Collection had already been ordered at the time of the photo shoot and is scheduled to be installed in the future. Additionally, the owner is considering soup up the engine and painting or reinforcing the frame to match the custom style.

Handle

The bike features a Brembo CORSA CORTA front master cylinder and a Kohken clutch holder. It also has a short-offset stem of unknown manufacturer.

Electrical

The gauges are stock with an added GiPro shift indicator and Yoshimura progress meter. A mounting kit is a one-off product for the tank cap section to install a Matris steering damper.

Bodyworks

The seat has been customized with a tuck and roll design, and Doremi Collection side covers are installed. In the future, all exterior parts are planned to be replaced with Doremi products.

Engine

The 738cc air-cooled DOHC 2-valve parallel 4-cylinder engine is currently in stock specifications with plans for customization in the future. An active round-type oil cooler is installed. The ignition has been upgraded to an AS Uotani full power kit with a MOSFET regulator to enhance the overall sense of security when riding the bike.

Intake & Exhaust

The carburetor is equipped with an FCRφ35mm black edition, and at Mellows, adjustments were made with the addition of short spigots to shift the characteristics towards high rpm performance.

Chassis

The front fork has been upgraded to Ohlins RWU with a diameter increase from 41mm to 43mm. The front brake consists of a Brembo racing caliper and a Sunstar Works expand disk.

The rear shocks are made by Ohlins, and an 80 x 40mm rectangular section aluminum swingarm with an OVER TYPE-9 design is used. The steps are Striker, and the wheels have been upgraded to MAGTAN JB4 with a larger diameter size of 3.50-17/5.50-17 from 3.00-17/4.00-17. Each part of the bike has been carefully reconstructed through customizations, with previously removed parts being reinstalled.

The rear brake is mounted with a Brembo CNC caliper and a Sunstar Works expand disk, using a KEINZ caliper support.
