Beyond the Ordinary: Yamaha YZF-R7 Custom by ACTIVE
ACTIVE's YZF-R7
The MT-07 is a mid-sport model that combines a 270-degree crank, DOHC 4-valve 688cc parallel-twin engine, a steel diamond frame, φ41mm front forks, and a link-type rear monoshock, with 3.50-17 and 5.50-17 size wheels. The YZF-R7 is a supersport that integrates this platform with a full cowl, upside-down front forks, and an aluminum frame center brace. This model is designed to allow owners to enjoy the athletic performance of a supersport bike themselves, as Yamaha describes in its catchphrase, 'Supersport for you.' It offers a perfect balance of performance, making it suitable for both winding roads and racetracks. This demo bike, which ACTIVE worked on based on the YZF-R7, was exhibited at motorcycle shows in Tokyo and other cities in 2011. With the theme 'Beyond Just Right,' the aim was to elevate the YZF-R7's 'From Street to Racetrack' performance by incorporating bolt-on parts, taking it to the next level.
Installed are ACTIVE STF Levers (brake/clutch) and ACTIVE Lever Guards, an ACTIVE Step Bar, High Throttle Kit EVO2, QSTARZGPS Lap Timer LT-8000GT, and AKRAPOVIC JMCA Spec Racing Line Titanium Silencer. Additionally, front springs and rear shocks have been installed. Also, the Hyper Pro Street BOX with front springs + rear shocks, and forged aluminum GALE SPEED TYPE-SB1 front and rear wheels are all bolt-on parts that enhance the functionality and maneuverability of the bike. With its stock Brembo radial master cylinder on the front and upside-down front forks, the YZF-R7 does not seem to require any particular parts replacement. Nevertheless, these modifications to the YZF-R7 reveal a quality and performance that go 'beyond' the ordinary. This bike plays a role in making us aware of it. The paint job by ALFA TEC is reminiscent of the North American-spec FZ750, a Yamaha Supersport bike introduced in 1985. It might be nice to experiment with the parts while enjoying the atmosphere of the FZ750, which also competed in the AMA Superbike Championship.
Handle
The Brembo radial master cylinder is installed as stock, but its lever has been replaced with an ACTIVE STF Lever (red). The lever is equipped with a dial to adjust the lever position to enhance the operating feel. An STF Lever is also used on the clutch side. Additionally, an ACTIVE brake lever guard set and High Throttle Kit EVO2 Black φ50 are also installed.
The QSTARZ GPS Lap Timer LT-8000GT is mounted on the top bridge via an ACTIVE bracket. This is ideal for checking your own lap time on the racetrack.
Bodyworks
Regarding the rear, the ACTIVE Fender Eliminator Kit with LED License Plate Lights and LED License Plate Side Turn Signals with Compact White Lenses have been installed. Both of these parts contribute to improved visibility and appearance on the street.
Intake & Exhaust
The rear brake disc is also replaced with a Moto Master HALO Rear Brake Disc ø245. The exhaust system is equipped with an AKRAPOVIC JMCA Spec Racing Line Titanium Silencer.
Chassis
The HYPERPRO Monoshock T461 with Hose Tank Type with HPA gives the front fork springs a constant rising rate. The wheels are also changed to forged aluminum GALE SPEED TYPE-SB1. The size is the same as stock, 3.50-17/5.50-17. The front disc is also replaced with a Moto Master HALO φ300 Disc.
Rear shocks are now Hyper Pro 461. The front spring and rear shock are changed at the same time for easy adjustment.
The step bar has been changed to an ACTIVE Step Bar. The machined aluminum step bar provides a better step grip, and the upper surface can be turned in 6 different directions to find the most comfortable place to step on. The pillion step bar has also been changed. The drive chain is EK's 525SRX2 Black & Gold for a more polished appearance.
