The New Retro: YAMAHA XSR900 Custom by Magical Racing
Magical Racing's XSR900
The XSR900 was remodeled in '22 based on the MT-09 with a die-cast frame and 888cc inline 3-cylinder engine with the addition of an 80's sports model look. The new model was shaped into a retro naked sports model, and Magical Racing produced an upper cowl and covers for each part that complemented the new design. This is a demo bike for the "2022 XSR900 Street Bodywork" series, showcasing various interesting parts throughout. The most distinctive feature is the upper cowl. The company had already developed "Street Bodywork" parts for the first generation XSR900 (2016-), but the shape differs from those parts as well. The upper cowl is reminiscent of the stock bikini cowls used on 2-stroke racer replicas in the 1980s. The way it covers the front forks and the lines leading to the frame is so perfect that one would think it comes with a stock XSR900.
"This cowl is created in collaboration with skilled craftsmen who specialize in modeling, and we went through a lot of consideration. We took into account the characteristics of the current XSR and tried to make it nostalgic for the older generation while appearing fresh for the younger generation," says Mr. Kubo of Magical Racing. The fact that they had already produced Street Bodywork parts for the 2022-MT-09/SP, which is the basis for this XSR, provided a tailwind for development. It also includes caliper cooling ducts, which are a must-have of the company's recent products for larger models. Furthermore, attention has been paid to every detail, including a dry carbon pipe and aluminum handlebar end for the hollow space left on the handlebar when the stock bar-end-mounted mirrors are replaced with Magical Racing's NK-1 mirrors. The quality and shape are truly recommended.
Handle
The photo shows the upper cowl, the centerpiece of the 2022 XSR900 Street Bodywork series, which matches the XSR900's round headlight and also provides a perfect size and flow that connects well to the aluminum twin-spar frame. It also offers good rectification and enhances the comfort of the XSR.
The mirrors that are mounted on the bar ends in the stock condition are replaced with NK-1 mirrors mounted in the standard position. A round Type 6 head is used here. The handlebar ends are mounted in the hollow ends of the handlebars for a more organized look.
Bodyworks
A hollow monocoque tank end has been added to the tank to make it easier to hold with the lower half of the body, taking advantage of the race-like image of the current XSR900.
The fender eliminator kit includes a license plate light and uses the stock turn signals. A general-purpose reflector kit (sold separately) is attached under the license plate holder. All products are available in multiple materials, but twill weave carbon is chosen for all of them.
The under cowl also enhances the image of the XSR900's early '80s racing style. The step kit is made by BABYFACE.
The caliper cooling ducts are visible on the underside of the front fender with integrated fork guard. They can be used with the stock fender as well.
The swingarm cover literally attaches to the swingarm, enhancing its quality while providing protection. The rear fender is sold separately.
The rear fender is integrated with the chain guard and is significantly longer than the stock fender to improve the rear area's rectification and mud splash prevention.
Engine
The radiator shroud is made of composite resin instead of the stock ABS resin, and the design has been changed to accentuate the radiator side. The radiator is fitted with a core guard by Etching Factory.
