Yamaha V-MAX Custom by RED MOTOR
RED MOTOR's V-MAX
The muscle design of the drag racer image and the torque and sound of the V4 engine, reminiscent of an American V8, have made the Yamaha VMAX a solidly popular. This custom is based on the successor model, VMAX1700.
This VMAX is its owner's second bike and is mainly used for touring and city riding. The customization includes a rear carrier for urban riding, but the engine and many other parts are retained. For example, drive shafts are not replaced with chains, which is common modification on high-tuned VMAX. However, the bike is equipped with a titanium exhaust and BST carbon wheels, which are effective for the street riding. The wheel bearings are made of ceramic for smooth rotation, and the Yoshimura Bazzaz performance chip is used for fuel control, so the ride quality is quite better. End baffle that changes the end gap with back pressure, was brought from a car and modified for installation. This bike is quiet at low rpm and has power when turned up. The blinkers are Kijima's ultra-compact Nano, and at a quick glance, no one may wonder where they are. It is bright and is a point of attention. This bike is used not only for touring but also for racing as a pinch-hitter when race-spec bikes are in the dock for maintenance. For this reasonm it is always maintained carefully.
Handle
For this bike, a shift light is also installed, and the gauges look as if they have been redesigned for drag racing. Its headlight and handlebar are also retained. The mirrors have been replaced with Magical Racing's NK-1 carbon monocoque body for a stylish finish.
Electrical
The front and rear blinkers are Kijima's Nano type LED, which are about the diameter of a one yen coin, but when turned on, they shine brightly and are highly visible even in daylight.
And the rear blinkers fit on both sides of the license plate holder like this picture.
Engine
The 65-degree narrow-angle 1679cc V4 engine, which delivers 151ps in stock Japanese specifications (200ps in European specifications), and the frame are stock. The ECU settings and Bazzaz's performance chip were used to match the fuel condition and create an easy-to-ride, powerful feel. The top speed was measured at 291 km/h.
Intake & Exhaust
The silencer is a one-off product, with the second half made of titanium. It has a built-in baffle that changes the internal clearance depending on the back pressure for car use so that it is normally quiet and can produce power when turned up, such as when used for drag racing.
Chassis
The simple configuration of the rearsets kit was chosen by BABYFACE (black), and a Bazzaz auto shifter was also added.
The front forks with extra-thick Φ52mm inner tubes, rear shocks, front 6-piston calipers, cast swingarm and shaft drive are stock. The front discs have been replaced with Brembo T-drives. The front and rear axle shafts are also replaced with PeO chromoly.
The wheels are BST Carbon. SIzes are 3.50-18 front and 8.00-18 rear, the same as the stock wheels. The rear tire size was widened from 200/50-18 to 240/40-18. The wheel bearings are made of ceramic, which is often used by Red Motor for drag racing to reduce running resistance.
