Art in Motion: YAMAHA SR400 Custom by CANDY Motorcycle Laboratory

CANDY Motorcycle Laboratory's SR400

This SR400 by CANDY Motorcycle Laboratory has caught the attention of SR fans at numerous motorcycle events. With a 21-inch front wheel, trial tires on both front and rear, and a stock RZ250 swingarm converted to cantilever, it has a style reminiscent of a trial bike or motocrosser. However, it is the exquisite details that set it apart from a mere off-road customization.

Looking at the exterior, the fuel tank and seat cowl are one-offs made of aluminum. The compact, sharp design is reminiscent of European machines such as OSSA and BULTACO. However, an original custom feel is created with things like the length of the seat cowl. The paint job by CANDY's Mr. Yokoyama is nothing short of amazing! PUCCI brand designs were used as inspiration, so it's sure to be popular with the ladies too. The handlebar and exhaust pipe were also made as one-offs, and the rectangular headlight is mounted vertically, a detail that further emphasizes the slimness of the machine. This is a completely novel custom not confined to mods seen on other machines, a great work of art that fully demonstrates the builder's flexible ideas and skills.

Handle

The handlebar, reminiscent of a BMX bike, is a one-off fabrication. The bar-end turn signals also add a nice accent.

The rectangular headlight is mounted vertically to emphasize the slenderness of the body. The yellow lens create a vintage look.

Bodyworks

The fuel tank, reminiscent of those on trial machines, is of course a one-off. Mr. Yokoyama of CANDY was in charge of the paint job, which was inspired by patterns used by the PUCCI brand.

The seat cowl and silencer are just some of the highlights of the rear view.

Engine

Red wrinkle paint has been applied to the engine head, hubs, and other key areas.

Intake & Exhaust

The left-side high-mount exhaust gives this custom a dirt bike look. The beauty of the engine is also a must-see!

Chassis

The swingarm is taken from an RZ. The cantilever-type rear suspension, reminiscent of transitional off-road machines, is a sight to see.

The rear wheel is stock and both tires are MICHELIN.
