Riding the Edge: YAMAHA MT-09(FZ-09) Custom
Webike's Opinion
Here is a "YAMAHA MT-09(FZ-09)" custom by Webike community user "Heihachi". The owner, a return rider, got back into riding four years ago. After regaining his touch and feeling the urge to ride fast again, he decided to purchase the MT-09. What he’s most satisfied with is the incredibly light and agile handling. The sharpness of the bike when switching between corners is a real joy, and once he got used to it, cornering became a lot of fun. Additionally, the soft suspension provides a comfortable ride, and the seat shape is perfect for easily strapping on a bag, making it good for touring as well.
The exhaust has gone through several iterations, from Akrapovic to OVER Racing, and now he’s settled on the r’s gear Wyvern Real Spec Full Exhaust System. The Wyvern’s build quality is exceptional, and the finish is meticulous. He says it’s the best choice for anyone who treats their bike like a visual masterpiece, focusing on customization for aesthetics rather than pure performance.
For the handlebars, he’s installed GOLDWIN Aero Covers, which, depending on how you look at them, could be considered oversized knuckle guards. Made from lightweight, high-strength polyester oxford fabric, they're really warm, and the owner highly recommends them for anyone who’s into the looks of the product. However, he advises that the turn signals become a bit hard to use, so he suggests opening the side zippers for better access. The KIJIMA GH07 Grip Heaters he had installed had worn out and became slippery, so he replaced them with the new GH10 model. Although the catalog specs show only a 1mm difference, the new grips feel much thinner, and the switch operation has improved as well.
When the new model was released, he took the opportunity to change the exterior with a YAMAHA Authentic Exterior Set in the traditional color scheme. While he was a bit disappointed that the logo on the front fender, side scoops, and side covers were decals instead of paint, he’s pleased with how the overall look has become much more vibrant and eye-catching.
