BrightLogic's HAYABUSA

To determine what is necessary for each owner's request and to put it together in a high-performance and well-balanced manner— This has become a highly important factor in today's motorcycle customization. Although this becomes more difficult as the performance of models used as custom bases increases, Bright Logic has not relaxed their efforts in regard to the HAYABUSA.

This HAYABUSA is a good example of one such machine. Looking at the installed parts, the front and rear Ohlins suspensions, Brembo brake system, and JB magnesium forged wheels are all familiar selections and methods for customs at this shop. Along with weight reduction, the precision of touch and operation has been improved in each part.

Even though the HAYABUSA is known for being light, it still weighs 266kg (late model/fully equipped), as expected from its displacement, so weight reduction is a very important factor. The wheels and exhaust, which are located away from the center of mass, are at the top of the list. As for the bike body, the fuel tank has been replaced with an original Bright Logic Aluminum Tank. The new tank has the advantage of being lightweight and having ample capacity, which makes it ideal for touring.

For the exterior, the cowl has been completely redesigned. The front is a single center headlight CLEVERWOLF STREET Full Cowl Assembly (upper, sides, under, and inner panel). This alone can reduce the weight by approximately 5kg. Moreover, it is said to increase performance. The tail section is a CLEVERWOLF STREET Seat Cowl Assembly, which changes the tail from the stock round shape to a sharper one, based on the GSX-R1000 K9. Originally, Bright Logic's Mr. Takenaka saw an R1000 tail conversion overseas and decided to give it a try, but it took a lot of time and effort to make the positioning jig and change the battery size. Later, CLEVERWOLF came out with this kit, which made his work a lot easier.

For the steering, the handlebar was changed from clip-ons to a low bar type, making it easier to handle. The overall weight reduction and quality of control make this HAYABUSA a very high level custom. Takenaka also commented, “It's so light that you would not believe it is a HAYABUSA when you ride it, and you can enjoy touring anywhere on it. It may be the ideal form for the HAYABUSA."

Handle

The mirrors are by Magical Racing with carbon monocoque construction. The front brake and clutch master cylinders are both Brembo radial pumps. The handlebars have been changed from clip-ons to a bar type with reduced height for ease of use.

Bodyworks

The front cowl is a CLEVERWOLF '08- HAYABUSA 1300 STREET Full Cowl Assembly, which includes a single-headlight upper cowl (double-headlight type also available), left and right sides, under cowl, inner panel, and windshield. It is painted white and fitted with small turn signals.

The GSX-R1000 shaped tail is CLEVERWOLF's '08- HAYABUSA 1300 STREET Seat Cowl Assembly, which opens at the top and has a tray-type accessory compartment inside.

The fuel tank is Bright Logic's original Aluminum Tank for ‘99-’09 GSX1300R HAYABUSA. The tank is lightweight and has increased capacity, making it easy to use for touring. The stock fuel cap, fuel pump, and tank brackets can be used without modification. For this bike it has been finished by spraying clear coat on the aluminum base.

The seat is a Supreme Seat and is shaped to match the modified tail cowl. It is thin but firm, which improves both ride comfort and footing.

Engine

By significantly reducing the weight of the chassis, including the exterior and exhaust, the bike feels more compact and mobility is greatly enhanced even though the engine remains stock. The generator cover on the left side of the engine is an original Bright Logic product made of 2mm-thick dry carbon.

Intake & Exhaust

Replacing the 4-2-1-2 dual exhaust with a 4-1 titanium exhaust contributes to weight reduction. The silencer is a YOSHIMURA R-11sq.

Chassis

The simply shaped step kit, which has a duracon slider at the end of the high grip bar, is a machined step by AGRAS.

The front forks have been replaced with Ohlins inverted forks. The front brakes are a combination of Brembo radial calipers and Brembo discs.

The 10-spoke 3.50-17/6.00-17 size front and rear wheels are magnesium forged MAGTAN JB3 wheels, which do not only offer high performance but also contribute to weight reduction. The rear brakes use a Brembo 2-piston caliper and SUNSTAR disc. The stock HAYABUSA swingarm is used, and a stand hook was added.

The rear shock is an Ohlins TTX, and the swingarm is also fitted with a carbon rear inner fender to reduce mud and water splashing.
