Experiencing Rear Suspension Differences: KAWASAKI ZRX1200DAEG Custom by BIG FOOT

 8 min read

BIG FOOT's ZRX1200DAEG

This ZRX1200DAEG custom, built by Big Foot, is equipped with Nojima Engineering’s NJ-5 monoshock conversion, a setup clearly visible from the rear. On top of this modification, the bike has received additional custom touches throughout.

“The owner of this bike also owns a black ZRX1200DAEG,” explains Mr. Abu of Big Foot. “We first customized that one for him, and after riding it on long tours and around town, he really liked it. So he added this second NJ-5-equipped DAEG to his garage, saying he wanted something that offers even more riding enjoyment. True to his words, he uses this one mainly for track days and winding road tours. Meanwhile, the black twin-shock version is reserved for city rides and longer trips."

For many riders, chasing performance on a single bike often means changing its core setup entirely. Others, when adding a second motorcycle, might opt for a completely different category like switching from a naked bike to a supersport. But this owner deliberately chose to add another ZRX1200DAEG to his collection. That speaks volumes about how much he enjoys his existing machine and the specifications.

While some components and the overall color theme are shared between the two bikes, this version uses green as an accent color. Structurally, the two custom DAEGs are quite similar, with the key difference being the rear suspension—one with twin shocks, the other with a monoshock setup. To customize both bikes to his liking and simply enjoy the differences between them—what a truly luxurious way to experience a motorcycle. This approach perfectly captures the kind of enjoyment that only a bike as versatile as the ZRX can offer.

Handlebar

The round headlight fairing is a Big Foot original, mounted to the frame using their custom bracket kit. Its position can be adjusted forward or backward. The billet triple tree, made by Wheelie, changes the offset from the stock 30mm to 28mm. The bike is also equipped with clip-on handlebars.

Bodywork

The rear has been converted to a single seat with a tail cowl made by LEOPARD. The bodywork was painted by SIDE WINDERS.

Engine

The engine is built with balanced pistons and camshafts from the ZZR1200. It features a larger radiator and titanium cooling pipes. Engine covers and rearsets are billet parts from Wheelie. The fuel injection uses a funnel setup, with ignition mapping controlled by a Power Commander V. The electrical system incorporates an AS Uotani unit, and a Wheelie frame reinforcement kit has also been installed.

Intake & Exhaust

The exhaust is a full titanium system by JB-POWER. The rear brake caliper is a Brembo 2-piston, and the rear brake disc is made by Sunstar.

Chassis

The rear features Nojima Engineering’s NJ-5 monoshock setup. The rear shock is an Ohlins and the swingarm is made by Wheelie. Both specified for the NJ-5.

The front forks are an Ohlins RWU. The combination of Brembo 484 4-piston calipers, Wheelie caliper supports and Sunstar Works Expand brake discs is the same as the owner's other bike, except the caliper logos are painted green.

The wheels are MAGTAN JB4s in 3.50-17 (front) and 6.00-17 (rear). The chain is a DID 525 size. A stand hook is also installed.
