Kawasaki Z900RS Custom by MS-SAILING
MS-SAILING's Z900RS
This Z900RS is a customization that combines style and performance. The point is to create the air-cooled Z looks like 1970s. The wheels are therefore changed from the stock 17-inch to 18-inch. The exhaust has also been changed from the stock assembly type to a quad tail specificaiton. A minor customization is the engine guard. The stock frame does not have a down tube because it is constructed similarly to a diamond frame. Therefore, an engine guard that resembles a down tube has been added. These changes not only give the styling a more air-cooled Z-like appearance, but also pursues solid riding performance. Ohlins, which has an established reputation in the racing and customization scene, is used for the front forks and rear shocks. Also, a Rapid Bike performance chip and auto shifter were installed. The performance chip aims for easy handling in the low to mid speed range. The auto shifter is also effective for quick shifting during sport riding, and reduces the fatigue of gripping the clutch lever when shifting gears during long-distance touring.
Intake & Exhaust
The slim rear area in the stock configuration has a sense of massiveness.
The retro look of the Z900RS, and this 4-pipe exhaust greatly influence its style. The exhaust made by Doremi Collection, and its design as well as its massive exhaust note are also key points.
Bodyworks
The down tube style engine guard is unique as an aftermarket part for the retro-looking Z900RS. The "DOHC" design of the point cover is also installed.
The rearsets are made by Doremi Collection. The steps are equipped with rubber bars, giving them a retro look. The rubber is also removable.
Handle
Handle clamps and brackets are made by K-Factory and are compatible with upright front forks.
Frame
The swingarm is made by K-factory and has a triple square section figure. It also has a moderate amount of flex for rigidity balance. Axle holders are machined from aluminum blocks.
Chassis
The 18-inch wheels make it look slightly taller than stock. In addition, the upright front forks and quad exhaust pipes add to the retro look.
Even though the inverted front forks have been replaced with upright front forks, the new Ohlins model is adopted and ensures stable riding performance.
The rear shocks are also changed to Ohlins. Both the front and rear are made from aftermarket parts with an established reputation for high levels of riding performance.
Link plates have been changed to K-factory. It is machined from duralumin for high rigidity. The link ratio is the same as stock.
AP Racing calipers are used for the front brakes. Due to the replacement of the front forks, they have been changed from stock radial mounts to side mounts.
The 18-inch wheels used are the Doremi Collection Morris Mag. The design is reminiscent of the wheels used on the air-cooled Z series models, creating a retro look.
