Sanctuary's Z1000MkII

SANCTUARY_Z1000mk2_01.jpg

Here is a full custom Kawasaki Z1000MkII built by RCM, an offshoot of AC Sanctuary. One of RCM's concepts is the chassis. 17 inches high-grip radial tires are indispensable for modern riding performance. However, the slender frame of the stock air-cooled Z would not be able to endure the stresses of modern high-grip tires. In addition, if stock wheels are replaced with 17-inch ones, that would change the bike's posture and weight distribution. Therefore, the optimum body posture, frame configuration, and suspension parts are essential.

To optimize the bike posture, Sanctuary developed functional parts called "Sculpture," including the upper and under brackets and swingarm, which correct the forward leaning posture of the 17 inches frame. With this as the foundation, the frame was reinforced with the original Stage II reinforcement menu to provide strength to handle the stresses of high-grip tires. In addition, the 17-inch radial tires for today's sports models are now mainstream size 180, which is considerably wider than the stock tires, and an in-line process was also added to secure the drive chain offset track. The chassis is constructed with world-class parts such as forged aluminum wheels by OZ Racing, front and rear shock units by Ohlins, and brake parts by Sunstar and Brembo, all of which are highly acclaimed worldwide, in order to achieve riding performance on par with current sports models. This bike is designed to deliver riding performance that can be used even in the modern era.

The front forks are the Ohlins upright type. Sanctuary is offering the front forks as an E×M (Exchange Mode) package, which includes the front fenders, fender mounting brackets, and caliper supports that are required when replacing the front forks.

The rear shocks are also made by Ohlins. Sanctuary selects this brand at a very high rate unless otherwise specified. As evidenced by the popularity of this brand, there is an abundance of setting data available, and the performance is tailored to the owner's preference.

OZ Racing's Gass RS-A forged aluminum wheels, Sunstar RCM Concept brake rotors, Brembo calipers, and other first-class suspension components are used to pursue controllability.

The rearsets are made by Nitro Racing, which has gained popularity for its simple shape. The operating part has a built-in bearing to enhance operability. The forward-facing master is a measure to fit the brake fluid cup inside the side cowl.

The frame pipes around the pivots are treated inline to accommodate wide 180-size tires. The sprockets are also offset. The sprocket covers are made by Nitro Racing for easy maintenance. The split type is intended to allow for color changes. A speedometer sensor is compatible.

The rear brake force itself is intentionally reduced so that the bike posture can be easily controlled during cornering by braking rather than just braking force. The amount of pressure is increased to prevent panic braking and to improve controllability.

The swingarm is made of a specially developed sculpture to obtain the optimum body posture when the air-cooled Z series is converted to 17 inches. Unlike other products on the market, this one is differentiated by the RCM-specific chain pull. The maintenance stand hooks are red to accentuate the overall look.

Handle

As a minor point, all the switches are stock ones from newer models. Old ones may malfunction, and it is standard practice to renew transfers of this type to improve reliability. Naturally, Sanctuary replaced all the switches with new ones.

The brake and clutch masters are both Brembo RCS. The radial type is used in both the racing scene and on the street, as it is easier to feel and operate.

The brake hoses are made by Allegri of Italy, which is handled by Sanctuary. These are carefully selected for their performance in terms of hydraulic conductivity and also for their routing, down to the millimeter.

Intake & Exhaust

SANCTUARY_Z1000mk2_11.jpg

The exhaust pipe was made by welding titanium pipes that had been cut into rings one by one. This method was started with the intention of keeping the pipes as close to the engine as possible without crushing them when the pipes are bent, giving them a unique and beautiful appearance.

Engine

SANCTUARY_Z1000mk2_15.jpg

In RCM, there are two engine tuning menus. One is the Power package, and the other is the Life package. In this machine, no major changes were made to the specs other than the selection of the Life Package and the use of 1mm oversized pistons by Pistal Racing to increase the engine's capacity to 1,045 liters. However, with the use of countermeasure parts, PAMS EST liners, crankshaft centering correction, and an overhaul of the valve area, the specs were improved to provide more power and peace of mind than the stock.
