Beyond the Classic: KAWASAKI GPZ900R Custom by SANCTUARY
SANCTUARY's GPZ900R
"This Ninja," says Mr. Nakamura of AC Sanctuary, "is the first RCM Ninja Formula Package we've done in a while." RCM is the name given to AC Sanctuary's complete customs and stands for "Radical Construction Manufacture". The “RCM Ninja Formula Package” is equipped with an engine from one of the the GPZ900R's successor models, such as the GPZ1100 or ZRX1100/1200R, as opposed to the “RCM Ninja New Type-R” menu which is composed of 17-inch modern tires front and rear and a GPZ900R engine with updated parts. A GPZ1100 engine was chosen for this particular bike.
"It's derived from a ZZR1100 and has the stock 6-speed transmission. And since the sleeves are not plated, there is a lot of room to play with it, including enlarging the bore. It has a large displacement and torque, so it is relatively easy to ride. On top of that, this engine has been increased from the original φ76mm/1052cc to φ78mm/1108cc. The 6-speed is easy to use for long tours and suits the owner's needs. We had a set of Nitro Racing Type II Down Tubes for engine installation, and we were able to use those as well," said Nakamura.
The shop has a well established knowledge of engine installation, and the other parts can be configured in the same way as the New Type-R, with new wiring and optimal dimension settings. The owner of this bike previously had an RCM made using his Z and is the first customer to come back and order a second. Moreover, he made this choice after having ridden many different supersport models. He ordered this RCM because he saw the characteristics that he needed, and he also knew how good an RCM is from riding one in the past, so he is sure to ride this one for a long time to come as well.
A new concept for the RCM Ninja Formula Package is also in the works: a version with a Kawasaki engine and FI from the year 2000 or later. Mr. Nakamura says it will take a little more time, but we look forward to seeing the new series as well.
Handle
The chassis is constructed in accordance with the RCM Ninja New Type-R menu. The frame is reinforced at the cowl bracket bosses and extended to fit a rear wide tire. The Daytona RCM Concept Handlebars are mounted on a SCULPTURE Stem Kit TYPE-1, and GALE SPEED VRC left and right master cylinders are installed. The engine tachometer was changed to a Stack ST200, the oil temperature gauge and voltmeter to Defi, and the fuel gauge to SP Takegawa. A YOSHIMURA PRO-GRESS2 meter is also added. The mirrors are Magical Racing Racer Replica Mirrors with Type-2 heads.
Bodyworks
The seat is a Supreme Seat with Ninja logo on the side. The green and black paint job was done by Paint Shop Okushin.
Engine
With the horizontal intake GPZ1100 engine used as the base, the engine underwent precision internal combustion machining by DiNx (including crank bend correction, dynamic balancing, journal wrapping, oversize valve replacement, seat cutting, boring, honing, etc.), and was equipped with Wossner φ78mm Forged Pistons and YOSHIMURA ST-1M Camshafts. The engine was then mounted using the Nitro Racing Type II Down Tubes for GPZ/ZRX. The ignition system is an UOTANI SP2, and the plug cord is by PAMS. The cooling system is reinforced with a Nitro Racing Wide Radiator Kit and High Mount Oil Cooler Kit.
The carburetor is a YOSHIMURA FCR-MJN φ37mm set with dual stack funnels.
Chassis
The steps are by Nitro Racing. The exhaust is a combination of Nitro Racing's 4in1 Machine Bent Titanium EX Exhaust and Conical Titanium V-II Silencer, both half polished.
The front forks are ø43mm Ohlins RWU from the Noblest ExM package. The front brakes are composed of Brembo 484 Super Sport Calipers and SUNSTAR Works Expand discs.
The rear brakes use a Brembo P2-RS84 Caliper and SUNSTAR φ250mm disc. The wheels are OZ Racing Forged Aluminum GASS RS-A in 3.50-17/6.00-17 sizes.
The rear suspension consists of a SCULPTURE R.C.M-specific Wide Swingarm + 17-inch Ninja-specific Ohlins KA203 shock. The drive chain is an EK530RCM BK;GP.
