Handling Enhancements for the All-Rounder: HONDA NS-1 Custom

Webike's Opinion

Here is a "HONDA NS-1" custom by Webike community user "Seihou". The NS-1 is a 50cc, water-cooled, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine motorcycle—a supersport model in the light motorcycle class. Despite its compact size, it comes equipped with full-size 17-inch wheels front and rear, offering a natural riding position. Plus, with the helmet storage space, it is highly practical for daily use. Instead of the typical fuel tank, the bike features a storage compartment, with the fuel tank located beneath the seat and the fuel cap placed on top of the rear cowl. The owner appreciates this design, stating, "Thanks to the helmet storage, I don't have to worry about carrying extra gear. The large frame allows for greater freedom while riding. It's a versatile bike, perfect for daily commuting, city riding, and even 200-kilometer day trips."

This motorcycle has played a pivotal role in the owner's life. The bike was purchased around 2005 when he was still in high school. He notes, "If it weren't for this bike, I wouldn't have the bike life I have now." Originally, the bike came in a tricolor design, but about five years ago, he decided to give it a more refined look by repainting it silver. The combination of the silver paint and bronze wheels gives it a more subdued vibe.

In terms of performance, the engine has been upgraded with a Lip's Big Bore Kit, increasing the displacement to 65cc. To prevent overheating, the bike retains the already-installed TZM50 radiator, with an additional NSR80 radiator added, creating a twin-radiator system to improve cooling efficiency. Even so, in heavy traffic, the temperature can still exceed 80°C, so the owner has focused on choosing the right coolant to keep things under control. For the front forks, a POSH Faith Initial Adjuster and an SPI Aluminum Top Bridge have been fitted. The preload is set soft, and the oil viscosity has been changed to ensure the forks hold firm as they compress. One of the most noticeable modifications, however, is the SPI Front Fork Brace. Combined with the top bridge, it has greatly improved the rigidity of the front end, resulting in a firmer, more controlled ride. The owner admitted, "To be honest, I thought the brace was just for looks, but I was surprised by how much it changed the handling."
