Webike's Opinion

Here is a "HONDA DAX" custom by Webike community user "Hakushika". The 1979 HONDA ST50-M, commonly known in Japan as the "American DAX," emerged during a time when cruiser-style bikes were gaining immense popularity in the late 1970s. This trend led to the adoption of a cruiser-style chopper aesthetic for the DAX, featuring a low and long design. The model is equipped with distinctive items such as wide pullback handlebars, extended front forks, a backrest seat with an integrated rear rack and sissy bar, a megaphone-style high-mount exhaust, and a large, fully chromed air cleaner box on the left side. The backrest seat is small but provides stability, and is also equipped with a small storage compartment.

The 49cc engine of this DAX has been upgraded with the KITACO 88cc Big Bore Kit. At the same time, the sprockets were changed from F14-R41 to F14-R32, both front and rear by KITACO. According to the owner, the power increase was significant enough that even switching to an F15 wouldn’t affect acceleration, while potentially improving top speed. Additionally, the KITACO Head Carburetor Kit KEIHIN PC Φ20, the most popular carb kit for 4-stroke mini bikes, was installed to further enhance the big-bore effect. In conjunction with the carburetor upgrade, the high-quality and cost-effective KITACO Fuel Cock Type 1 was also installed. While retaining the classic design of the era, the customization aims to improve acceleration and provide a smoother riding experience by increasing the engine's displacement.
