Embracing the Legacy: Honda CBX1000 Custom by T.T.R Motors

 9 min read

TTR MOTORS's CBX1000

The Honda CBX1000 is equipped with a smooth-feeling DOHC 4-valve inline 6-cylinder 1047cc engine, known as the "Silky Six." The bike's exterior and engine maintain the stock style of the period, and the wheels are stock Honda Boomerang Comstars, similar to those on the CB900/750FC and CX Turbo. This makes it challenging to determine the bike's age based on its appearance, leaving us wondering if there was ever a model with this specific combination.

T.T.R Motors incorporated stock parts from the CB1100R. The limited edition CB-R parts, along with a gold color scheme, give the bike a luxurious feel. The owner has been riding this bike for approximately 10 years and maintains a basic approach of building it with the stock style in mind while evoking the impression of the CBX from that era. To achieve this, the owner combines his own custom work with T.T.R Motors' original parts for the CBX, such as the Fender Eliminator Kit and Clutch Release. Additionally, parts like AP Racing 2-piece Structure 2 Piston Brake Calipers, Marzocchi Rear Shocks, and a DG PERFORMANCE 6-into-1 Exhaust were chosen as part of this combination. T.T.R. Motors has successfully met the owner's specific requirements. The rear shock is an overhauled Marzocchi that the owner found. However, if it were installed as is, the sub-tank would be positioned facing forward. To address this, a stainless steel extension was made for the torque rod on the right side of the chassis, allowing the sub-tank to be positioned facing backward. Regarding the engine, the initial plan was to use oversized pistons. However, since the owner wanted to maintain the stock displacement, the liners were replaced with stock dimensions, and stock-sized pistons were installed. The owner has a deep affection for the bike, takes excellent care of it, and intends to continue riding it. We eagerly anticipate seeing further customization on this bike in the future.

Electrical

The voltmeter is located directly below the speedometer and engine tachometer, the meter area with the fuse box placed on the front side of the key cylinder, and the clip-on/raised handlebar are all CBX stock style as per the concept. The tank and other exterior parts have been carefully handled and polished to prevent scratches.

Bodyworks

The double type seat is also modified based on the stock. Looking at the rear shock, it certainly seems that the sub-tank should be facing backward.

Engine

The engine is a stock CBX DOHC 4-valve inline 6-cylinder 1047cc. Although there was a proposal to use oversized pistons when overhauling the engine (which would actually increase the displacement), since the owner wanted to maintain the stock displacement, the liners were replaced with stock dimensions, and stock-sized pistons were installed. The oil cooler is a Lockhart with thermostat for other models.

The clutch release was replaced with T.T.R.'s Easy Clutch Kit, which is 30% lighter, to operate in relation to the weight of the clutch, which is unique to the CBX.

Intake & Exhaust

The carburetor is a JB POWER 6-series FCR φ33mm, which is almost the only aftermarket replacement for the CBX, and the exhaust is a DG PERFORMANCE 6-into-1 Exhaust, which was once called the "Pipe Organ From Hell".

Chassis

For the steps, the base plate was cut from an aluminum sheet, and the owner personally made and attached stickers with lines and letters that resemble parts from the era.

The front forks are stock CBX. The front brake area is AP/CP2696 with calipers combined with aftermarket floating discs.

The rear shock is a Marzocchi, reminiscent of the CBX from that era. However, if it were installed as is, the sub-tank would be positioned facing forward. To overcome this, a stainless steel extension was created for the torque rod on the right side of the chassis, ensuring it doesn't interfere with the rear brake caliper/support.

Gold anodized front and rear wheels have been replaced with stock CB1100RC/RD Boomerang Comstars in the 2.50-18/3.00-18 size, up from 2.15-19/2.75-18.
