Designed for Pillion: GPZ900R Custom
Mellows' GPZ900R
In the current motorcycle industry, various genres have emerged and there has been an increase in bikes that specialize in certain areas of performance. However, in the motorcycle world around 1984 when the Ninja or GPZ900R was introduced, this area was still developing. Many riders enjoyed using the Ninja or similar types of bikes to transform them for various genres and continued to ride the Ninja for a long time. This Ninja, like many others, has undergone various measures to address weaknesses, maintenance, and preventative repairs before any problems arise, and has been maintained over time.
The customization was designed with pillion riding in mind, and there were no significant changes made to the step. Parts were replaced as needed, and updates were made to various parts without making major changes to the bike. The front and rear wheels were also replaced, and the front axle was enlarged to ensure stability in corners. As a result of the customization process, it seems that the bike has been finished to a satisfactory standard.
Handle
The windshield is Double Bubble Smoked type by Zero Gravity. Steering stem is by G-STRIKER to accommodate front 17-inch Φ43mm forks and bar handle. The gauges are stock with the addition of YOSHIMURA Progress Meter.
Bodyworks
The seat has been machined and the grab bars have been left in place to adapt to pillion riding. In general, it's one that retains the Ninja's typical panache and all-round feel.
Engine
Both radiator and oil cooler core guards are made by PENSKE.
Intake & Exhaust
The carburetor is MIKUNI TMR Φ36mm and the fuel cock is by PINGEL. The fuel tank and exterior components are stock.
Since a pillion step is assumed, a Yoshimura Titanium Cyclone exhaust is installed, which can be installed with the stock & pillion step.
Chassis
Front forks are Ohlins upright for ZEPHYR 1100. The front fender is for a ZRX. Front brake consists of Brembo cast 4-piston caliper and SUNSTAR Cstom Disc (Φ310 mm).
The rear shocks are Ohlins for 18-inch wheels. Rear brake consists of Brembo Cast P2 34 calipers mounted with KEINZ supports and SUNSTAR Premium Racing Disc.
Wheels are ZZR1100D's, 3.50-17 for the front and 5.50-17 the rear. The front axle diameter has also been increased to improve cornering stability. The drive chain has been updated where necessary, including conversion to 520 size by EK.
