Better Ride, Better Control: YAMAHA MT-07(FZ-07) Custom
Webike's Opinion
Here is a "YAMAHA MT-07(FZ-07)" custom by Webike community user "moco17". The owner previously rode a TRIUMPH TIGER 800. While it was an all-around capable bike, the size didn't quite suit his frame, so he decided to switch to the more compact MT-07. With its nimble handling, lively engine, and great fuel efficiency, he says the MT-07 feels like the ideal bike for him.
He went with an SC-PROJECT exhaust. Dry carbon, ultra-light and high-strength, is generously used in the silencer’s end cap, and TIG welding is applied at the joints, contributing significantly to reducing the bike’s overall weight. However, the new setup made the exhaust louder than expected, so he added an OUTEX Honeycomb Catalyzer. Since the flange’s outer diameter and mounting position could be adjusted when purchasing, installation was a perfect fit with no need for modifications. The excessive exhaust volume was resolved without any noticeable drop in power or torque, and the sound level during acceleration and at high RPMs was noticeably reduced. While his primary aim wasn’t emissions control, he figures that if it also helps purify the exhaust gases while lowering the volume, it’s a win-win.
One part he truly felt the benefit of firsthand was the DAYTONA Engine Protectors. He experienced a lowside in a left-hand corner where the rear slipped out and the bike slid for about 10 meters before coming to a stop. In the end, only the handlebars and shift pedal needed replacing. The protectors had done their job.
Both front and rear suspension have been upgraded to YAMAHA KYB Special Suspensions. The stock rear suspension used to kick up over small bumps and bounce around, which made cornering over rough patches quite nerve-racking. After switching to the new rear shock, cornering stability improved dramatically. The spring rate and ride height remain similar to stock, but the shock absorption is much better, and the suspension feels like it hugs the road surface. Impressed by the improvement in the rear, he replaced the front as well. The consistent feel across both ends has noticeably elevated the MT-07’s overall performance. He couldn’t be more pleased.
